Description

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is leading State Secondary school in Altrincham. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Boys.

At AGSB they embrace education in its broadest sense, encouraging excellence in sport, the creative arts, engineering, scientific innovation and debating.  Our aim is to equip our students with the skills to contribute to society long after they have left us. The pastoral structures lay firm foundations for each and every boy, encouraging them to be self-confident, healthy and inquiring young men, while also displaying the virtues of tolerance and respect. AGSB is a large school, but retains the friendly, family atmosphere for which it is rightly renowned in the local area.

SIXTH FORM
Sixth Form offers a first-class education for bright young students and future leaders. Expectations and aspirations are high and are reflected in our consistently outstanding results and value added, which place us amongst the top 1% of Sixth Forms in the country. Our students benefit from these high expectations and support each other to achieve them. They similarly support each other to achieve high aspirations and in 2021 over 50% of our students applied for early entry courses, such as those offered by the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, as well as courses in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science. All our students benefit from equal support to secure the destinations of their choice and have also gone on to secure a range of degree level apprenticeships with companies such as Dyson, PWC and Jaguar Land Rover.

Y7-9 CURRICULUM
The aim of our KS3 curriculum is to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills in a broad range of subjects.  Departments at AGSB have spent several years fine-tuning AGSB Subject Achievement Maps (SAMs).  These documents identify the knowledge and skills that students need, to make progress in the different subject areas.

Y10-11 (GCSE) CURRICULUM
They aim to provide an ambitious Key Stage Four (KS4) Curriculum that promotes academic excellence through the study of a broad range of subjects.  The vast majority of AGSB students will go on to study A-level courses, followed by degree level qualifications; the KS4 curriculum is designed with this in mind. All students will sit between 9 and 11 GCSEs by the end of Year 11.  To ensure that all our students study a sufficiently broad and academic curriculum, some examined subjects are compulsory.
