Lymm High School has a long history as a successful and popular school and it is a real honour to have the opportunity to lead such a special place. They feel very fortunate indeed to be here.Even the shortest time spent in the school makes it clear that students here are typically very well brought up; they are bright, conscientious and ambitious. They enjoy their time at school and contribute hugely to the warm and positive atmosphere about the place. It is also immediately apparent that staff choose to work here for all the right reasons; they care about the young people they serve and work hard on their behalf. In particular, they give up many hours of their own time to facilitate a remarkable range of trips and extra-curricular activities, utilising the fantastic grounds and facilities that we are blessed with.

Facilities

Key Stage 3
A combination of budget pressures and worries about school accountability measures at KS4 mean that it is becoming increasingly common to see creative and technical subjects being squeezed out of the KS3 curriculum. However, at Lymm High School we place a very high value on these subjects in terms of their impact on young people’s lives and we pride ourselves on maintaining a broad and balanced, three year KS3 curriculum. Therefore, all students study English, Maths, Science, French, History, Geography, RS, PE and ICT/Computing, and in addition, we provide a broad performing arts offer for all students that includes Drama, Dance and Music, as well as lessons in Art, Food and Design Technology.

Key Stage 4
Students choose options in Year 9 to start study in Year 10. They are guided through this choices process via informative assemblies, a comprehensive ‘Choices’ booklet and guidance interviews with staff. All students are able to study any subject if they really want to and the aim is always to ensure everybody has as broad and ambitious range of subjects as possible. Students with SEND who require particular support and students eligible for the Pupil Premium are seen individually by members of the senior leadership team or our SENDCo to talk through the process and ensure the most appropriate subjects are selected for each individual.

Key Stage 5
All Year 11 students all have an individual guidance interview leading into their sixth form study, as well as special assemblies, an open evening, careers evening and various other transition events to ensure they make the right choices for them. Most students choose three A’ levels or equivalent, with some being given the option of studying four. We also classes in GCSE English and Maths for students who want or need to re-take these subjects.

Sixth Form
Lymm High Sixth Form is a thriving community and very popular with students from across the area. Whilst the majority of our students typically come from our main school, we welcome a good number of external students every year and, if you are considering making an application, I would strongly advise you come to visit us to get a real flavour of what they have to offer. As a large school sixth form, we are fortunate enough to be able to offer a wide range of Level 3 qualifications, including at least twenty-six different A level and six BTEC courses. Our size also allows us to offer a wide ranging extra-curricular programme as well plenty of independence and an exciting social life: students really enjoy their time here.

Things to note

Remote learning
2020 marked what was perhaps one of the most remarkable points in living memory for the UK education system, when in March, schools across the world closed to all but very few students. In the weeks following the enforced school closures, schools had to rapidly adapt in order to continue to provide education to students, in spite of no longer being able to teach them face to face.

Extra-curricular Sport
Please note that all students are welcome to attend sports clubs and we hope to see many students taking the opportunities to get involved in sport.

Performing Arts
The Performing Arts faculty at LHS engenders a spirit of creativity, self-expression and pride which are fundamental to our school’s ethos. We believe in providing all students with the opportunity to excel through performance and to experience the buzz of the theatre as part of a collaborative ensemble. Through shared experience and an exploration of our world through the arts, we encourage our students to become emotionally articulate and empathetic individuals. We strive to achieve highly accomplished and dynamic performance work which is innovative, engaging and challenging.
