Loreto is a wonderful school comprising some 1050 students and 100 staff. We are a happy community, one which is rooted in tradition whilst at the same time very forward looking. For me as Headteacher, it is a privilege to serve this community and I cherish the tremendous gift that has been placed into my hands by the Loreto Sisters. Our heritage is rich. Indeed, in 2010 we celebrated both the 400 Anniversary of Mary Ward’s founding of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary and our School Centenary. Such a heritage is a source of inspiration for the future of the School and for our work with the young women in our care.
Key Stage 3
The curriculum at key stage 3 is broad and ambitious. It centres on the development of the whole person as a member of the Loreto community. The curriculum aims to enrich the learning experience of each student and encourages students to explore the wider reaches of each subject area by reading independently and engaging in cultural experiences. There is an emphasis on developing the skills that students will need to be successful as they go on to post- 18 destinations, such as communication, teamwork, literacy and numeracy skills. Our strong pastoral programme allows the individual strengths of pupils to be identified and nurtured.

Key Stage 5
The curriculum offer at Key Stage 5 is extensive, offering 25 different A level courses. The curriculum is supplemented by our varied enrichment programme, which includes EPQ, core maths, yoga, cooking and beginners Spanish. The majority of students study 3 subjects; in exceptional circumstances they may choose to study four. New subjects introduced for study in the sixth form include economics, government and politics, psychology and sociology. Our teachers are passionate about their subject areas and provide students with excellent learning experiences. Study skills are fostered by providing opportunities for students to engage in their learning outside the classroom, by undertaking independent research and by taking part in super-curricular activities. This ensures that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful in their post-18 choices.
Sixth Form
They offer as many as 30 A Level subjects, all of which are acceptable as entry qualifications to university. There are no restrictions placed on combinations of subjects and all students receive individual advice on their choices before they begin Year 12. The vast majority of our students take 3 A Levels, but it is possible to take 4 in certain circumstances.
Loreto Learning and Support (LLS)
As an outstanding provider of secondary education in the North West region, we at Loreto Grammar School are committed to working collaboratively within and beyond our Alliance schools locally and nationally to support, improve and raise the quality and standards of education for all children. They are a National Support School led by Mrs Jane Beever, who is a National Leader of Education and we have supported and are currently working successfully with a number of schools within the locality and beyond.
