Saint Ambrose College is a Catholic, state funded independent grammar school with a selective intake. As a state funded school, there are no fees. They are one of eleven schools in England in the Edmund Rice Schools Network and also have ties with the global Edmund Rice community. KEY STAGE 3 CURRICULUM
Students study a broad, balanced and rich curriculum at Key Stage 3. The curriculum is designed to give students the necessary skills and knowledge in each subject area, so they are equipped to study them to GCSE and A-Level. It also aims to develop the whole person, with students who are responsible citizens with strong moral values.
KEY STAGE 4 CURRICULUM
Students study 10 subjects at GCSE, across Year 10 and 11, sitting examinations in the summer of Year 11. They also study a number of non-examined subjects. The following are compulsory non-examined subjects studied by all students: PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education), PE (Physical Education), Games. The following are compulsory GCSE subjects studied by all students: Religious Education, Mathematics, English Language & English Literature.
SIXTH FORM
The majority of students will study three A Level courses, with a small number taking four. In addition most students also study an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) or Core Maths.
Clubs and Society
At Saint Ambrose College we try to provide something for everyone - there is a huge range of clubs and societies to get involved in - anything from basketball to brass band, chess to Chaplaincy, skills and scripts to school of rock
Drama
At GCSE and A-level, Drama and Theatre Studies students must experience Live Productions as part of their course. They are examined on their ability to analyse and evaluate productions in a written examination. To assist with this, and to inspire their own future performance work a number of visits and productions held at College by visiting professional theatre companies are held each year. Family and friends are warmly welcomed to attend theatre visits. Likewise, younger students are welcome to attend selected productions. Visiting the theatre regularly proves to be highly inspirational for students of all ages.
Music
The music department has a thriving extra-curricular programme which caters for a number of musical interests which include orchestra, samba band, brass band, music tech, school of rock, woodwind and jazz band. There are also Senior and Junior choirs. The musicians and choirs perform at a variety of school events throughout the year. Students of all abilities are welcome to attend.
Enrichment
The College offers a curriculum enrichment programme to all students in the Sixth Form. The aim of the programme is to offer breadth and variety to post -16 education.Employers and universities increasingly demand evidence of a repertoire of skills to complement excellent examination results.
