They have high aspirations for all the boys who are encouraged to take risks and not be fearful of making mistakes on their way to success. They aim to provide a dynamic, exciting and modern education for our pupils, stimulating their curiosities and nurturing their enthusiasm in a progressive, inspiring learning environment.APS is a non-selective school and they welcome boys of a range of abilities from as young as 2 years old in our Nursery through to 11 year olds in Year 6. Our class sizes enable our boys to receive the support they deserve. From the moment your son joins us we will get to know him as an individual and foster his development so that he can reach and exceed his potential. The boys’ academic success is built around the breadth of opportunities they gain both inside and outside the classroom. They will have the opportunity to learn new skills, discover and develop new talents whilst also enjoying time with their friends. This, combined with excellent teaching and support, results in consistently excellent outcomes ensuring that every boy reaches age 11 ready for a lifetime of discovery and prepared to join the senior school that is just right for him.
EARLY YEARS
It is based in it’s own dedicated, purpose built site with the own specially designed outdoor play areas. It is here that they develop the building blocks that shape children's future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement; building a foundation for a life-long love of learning. It is proven that children learn more quickly during their early years than at any other time in life. They appreciate and recognise the need for nurture to develop a sense of trust and security that will turn into confidence as they progress through the school. In the Early Years Department, they are committed to providing a broad, balanced and appropriately differentiated curriculum within the framework of the EYFS curriculum. The exceptional Early Years teachers provide the essential building blocks necessary to ensure that they give the boys the creative and academic skills needed to transform their life journey. They also offer a thrilling array of specialist taught subjects: Sport, Musi, Drama and Yoga. They foster curiosity, risk-taking, exploration and discovery; skills that will remain with children for life.
PRE-PREP
Throughout the Pre-Prep years the emphasis is placed on ensuring the happiness and well being of every pupil and nurturing their individual talents. With excellent adult to child ratios we are able to ensure each child receives the best possible support and encouragement. The belief is that children need to be inspired. They need a learning environment where they see their school as a place of fun as well as instruction in order to fuel a passion for life-long learning. They create a stimulating and engaging learning environment where each child can thrive, develop and learn at the right pace for them. Through small class sizes, a broad and dynamic curriculum and high academic standards we seek to develop confidence, emotional resilience and intellectual curiosity in each and every child.
PREP
Enter Altrincham Preparatory School Prep Department and you will find a positive, warm and supportive community in which the boys work hard and play hard, thriving in the friendly and caring environment. Every boy has a part to play and every boy is respected. At the beginning of Year 3 the boys move from Pre-Prep to the purpose built Prep School based on Marlborough Road. This transition happens with ease due to the boys familiarity with the Prep school building and staff. The APS Prep curriculum is specifically tailored to develop the boys intellectually, physically and emotionally to have the best preparation for not only senior school but the world ahead. Working in partnership with parents, we identify each boy’s strengths, challenging and encouraging them to achieve their fullest potential in all they do. In doing so, we aim to nurture and develop happy, confident, motivated and self-disciplined boys who are resilient, tolerant and sensitive to the needs of others.
THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT
The breadth of opportunity we have within Music is quite astounding. It is rare for a preparatory school to have so many boys involved in music. The reasons for this are twofold; a team of dedicated and highly skilled instrumental teachers and an ethos of inclusion. The ethos at the core of the music department is “sound before symbol.” In the classroom, two things are at the core of what we do; development of the voice and the discovery of different styles of music through practical instrumental work.
SPORT AT APS
Unlike most other schools, APS is in the highly advantageous position of having two full-time specialist PE teachers, who teach all boys from Pre-School to Year 6 every week in lessons and also run the lunchtime and afterschool sports clubs and take boys to inter-school fixtures. These specialist teachers are able to nurture the boys and ensure that they develop over the years whilst getting to know their individual needs. The boys similarly will know the teachers well enough to perform with confidence and free from inhibition.
ART AND TECHNOLOGY
Pupils from Reception to Year 6 enjoy an hour of Art a week. Lessons are devised to enable the pupils to experience a wide range of media and to express themselves creatively. As well as developing their observational skills, the boys are encouraged to use their imagination and enhance their original thought process. Through the use of a wide variety of media the boys' manipulative and co ordination skills are developed and enhanced. The boys study works from a range of artists leading to colourful and imaginative projects displayed throughout the school.
