They are working closely with parents and the wider community in the bid to achieve this ambitious aim.
Primary
They are always excited to welcome new families and children into the caring school community and feel privileged to have the opportunity to support your children as they learn and grow into respectable, young people.Throughout the Primary Phase, the children are encouraged to become independent and enthusiastic learners. They are a multi-cultural community and value highly the harmony, tolerance and understanding that they promote. They welcome involvement from the local community and we are part of the United Learning group that is committed to bringing out ‘the best in everyone’.There is an emphasis on individual needs throughout the school, with extra support or challenge for those who need it.English and Maths are paramount, but we also value creativity, so they provide a broad and ambitious creative curriculum. Sport and physical education are enjoyed by all the pupils, with a strong emphasis on participation for all. Art, music and drama all form part of the curriculum and there are clubs and extra-curricular activities which aim to enrich the children’s experiences and involve them in as many positive and exciting activities as possible.
Transition from Year 6 to Year 7 at WHGS
At William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS), we recognise that moving from Primary to Secondary School can be an exciting but also daunting time for Year 6 pupils. For this reason, they have a robust and thorough transition package that best supports pupils with their transition. All prospective pupils and parents/carers are invited to look around the school at our Open Evening in the Autumn term. If offered a place in Year 7 at WHGS, then parents and carers will be invited in for an Introductory Evening at the end of March, with the opportunity to meet key staff and have a tour of the school site. Following this, Year 6 pupils and their parents/carers are invited to a personalised transition interview at the start of the summer term, where they will meet a key member of staff. This interview enables us to start getting to know pupils well and helps pupils to feel more comfortable about starting in Year 7.
Secondary
WHGS is committed to ensuring that all students, irrespective of who they are or what needs they may have, master the knowledge, understanding and skills to be successful. We judge every moment of learning as precious and so our lessons are expertly planned and taught by specialist teachers who aim to maximise every minute and encourage everyone to work to the best of their ability. To this end, they provide a broad and balanced curriculum, both inside and outside of the classroom. The curriculum is designed to meet the high aspirations of the learners and to support everyone to sustain the behaviour for learning habits that ensure that teachers can teach, and students can learn. To this end, they have systems in place that build upon the values of Ambition, Compassion and Respect and give everyone in our learning community the greatest chance of success.
Sixth Form
They believe that the Sixth Form offers a memorable educational experience that will help you achieve your ambitions. They provide a professional learning environment, which they believe offers students the best of both worlds, the freedom to express yourself as an individual, but also the support of the wider school community and the House system.
Music
The Music Department’s vision is to provide high quality, musical opportunities for all students both in the classroom and in a wider setting. From Beethoven to Bruno Mars, an inclusive practical musical backdrop is at the heart of all we do in our desire to create well-rounded musicians, lasting friendships and lifelong learners.Qualifications can be taken in GCSE Music or BTEC Music Technogy. In the Sixth Form they offer BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Music Performance.
PE and Games

The aim is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that brings out ‘the best in everyone’ across performance, leadership and health strands. They develop physically skilful young people who acquire the skills, knowledge, understanding, character and confidence to prepare them for examination PE and a positive lifelong relationship with physical activity and sport.
Selection Criteria: Selective
William Hulme's Grammar School (WHGS) changed from being a selective school in the independent (fee-paying) sector to being a city academy funded by the government in September 2007.
