The mission is to encourage each and every child to reach the highest levels of academic achievement, creativity and personal development. Equally, our aim is to create a generation who will be knowledgeable, committed to their faith and values and who will become outstanding citizens within the Jewish and wider community. The King David High School campus encompasses 'Main School' and 'Yavneh' units and pupils can choose which unit they attend. Pupils are free to move between the units at any time.
Key Stage 3
The school aims to maintain curriculum breadth for as long as possible and is against curriculum narrowing at KS3. At KS3 all students study English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Physical Education, Computer Science/IT, Religious Studies, Modern Hebrew, French and/or Spanish. In addition, the school places special emphasis on creativity and breadth and offers options such as Art, Drama, Food Technology and Music.
Key Stage 4
At KS4 the school encourages students to maintain curriculum breadth and challenge by choosing English Baccalaureate subjects. However, the school takes a bespoke approach and does not enforce the EBacc in order to allow students to pursue and excel on a broader range of creative and vocational subjects which enhance their wellbeing and ambitions. All students take between 8 and 10 subjects at GCSE including compulsory English Language, English Literature, Religious Studies, Mathematics and Dual or Separate Sciences.
Sixth Form
The King David High School Sixth Form combines academic excellence with a warm and supportive atmosphere. This enables students to maximise their potential and prepares them to face the demands of life after the Sixth Form with confidence. The Sixth Form offers students a wide choice of subjects, which are taught in small tuition groups. In addition, students benefit from the individual attention, support and guidance provided by a dedicated team of Sixth Form tutors and mentors.
Music
Music has a great and very meaningful educational value. Countless studies have charted the positive effect music lessons can have on student’s personal, social and academic progress. The music department aims to deliver on these findings through a fun, practical and immersive musical experience. Music is a subject that should be enjoyed regardless of personal taste and preference; through the curriculum at KS3 we cover a diverse range of genres, styles and cultures with a view to expanding the musical horizons of our students.
Drama
Drama and Theatre Studies enables learners to enhance essential personal social skills and to explore perspectives by identifying influential social, cultural, historical and political contexts. They plan, problem-solve and work collaboratively to investigate dramatic texts and forms of performance through theatre practitioners and commentators from a range of global cultures. Students are encouraged to evaluate critically written texts of plays and live performances from a multiplicity of genres and styles.
