St Christopher's Church of England High School is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Boys)
They strive to provide a genuinely holistic education, preparing boys and girls to tackle the ever greater demands facing young people in the 21st century. The talented and able teaching staff are dedicated to combining academic excellence with a richness of opportunity beyond the classroom. We are hugely ambitious academically for the pupils, ensuring that they secure the results to continue their education at the best universities or on training courses which will prepare them for careers of significance and worth. St Christopher’s opened in 1958 and is an outstanding 11 - 18 Church of England Academy. The caring community is based on a close partnership between staff, parents, pupils and governors and they foster strong links with local parishes and clergy, six of whom serve as School Chaplains. They emphasise pupils’ whole development, offering high standards of teaching in a range of courses to cater for all abilities, a wide extracurriculum and making a priority of spiritual nurture, with religious worship and teaching at the centre of school life. High academic achievement over the last four years resulted in national recognition with nearly 80% of our Year 11 pupils gaining at least five higher grades with English and Mathematics. The Most recent Ofsted Inspection Report (2016) judged pupils’ personal development, behaviour and welfare as ‘Outstanding’.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
The curriculum is the central way in which we seek to bring life to the school’s purpose. The interpretation of what comprises the curriculum is broad and encompasses all learning and other experiences that they plan for the pupils and students. The organisation, structuring and delivery of the curriculum also builds from the school’s sense of purpose, particularly its promotion of educating for academic success and wellbeing. The curriculum deliberately brings our pupils into contact with some of the greatest thoughts of all time (knowledge), enabling them to change how they think about the world (wisdom). The curriculum is selective, they cannot teach children all that has been thought and said. They can, however, introduce them to the conversation in which they can join with others, living and dead, to decide what ‘the best’ might be. The curriculum serves as an invitation into this conversation.
EXTRA CURRICULAR SPORT
They have lots of different clubs available to all students during lunchtimes and after school.
STEM
STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and encompasses a vast array of subjects that fall into each of those terms. While it is almost impossible to list every discipline, some common STEM areas include aerospace engineering, astrophysics, astronomy, biochemistry, biomechanics, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, mathematical biology, nanotechnology, neurobiology, nuclear physics, physics, and robotics, among many, many others. As evidenced by the multitude of disciplines, it's clear that STEM fields affect virtually every component of the everyday lives.
