Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at Aylesbury Grammar School
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is integral to the education of our students at Aylesbury Grammar School. Our provision for careers education is delivered through curriculum learning, dedicated talks, workshops and events, as well as one-to-one or group meetings with staff and Laura Franklin an independent careers advisor.

Year 7 Induction
Starting a new school can be exciting and daunting for both students and parents. We want to welcome you as a new member of the community here at AGS.

Key Stage 3
The School believes that the curriculum should provide an education to every student, irrespective of background, which is unparalleled in breadth and quality of opportunity. High academic attainment and the development of well-educated, confident, responsible and healthy young people who can flourish and succeed in the modern world are the aims of the curriculum. Everything we do in terms of curriculum is underpinned by “the AGS Learner” which is designed to develop the learning character of our students.

GCSE
The curriculum remains broad in Key Stage 4. All students study at least 11 GCSEs. All are required to study a modern language and separate sciences. Many students choose to take creative subjects (such as Art, Music, Drama or Engineering) with the majority entered and achieving the English Baccalaureate.

Things to note

Educational Visits
The range and opportunities within Educational Visits is a true strength of the School. With visits locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, there is something for everyone and something new to experience.  Educational and recreational visits are available in every year group with a variety of day and residential visits, including subject based as well as tours for musical groups and sporting teams.

Performing Arts
AGS prides itself on an unparalleled level of performing arts opportunities. Through the partnership with Aylesbury High School, annual productions in drama and music ensure a showpiece event for the students to be involved in. Described as West End quality, these shows are professionally produced to give the boys and girls a real sense of what it’s like to perform at the highest level.

Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

Year 7
Boys are eligible to be considered for admission to Aylesbury Grammar School in Year 7 if they meet the required qualifying score in the Secondary Transfer Test or have been deemed qualified by a Selection Review Panel. Two tests, each of approximately 60 minutes duration, are taken in the Autumn of the year prior to proposed admission. The tests comprise elements of verbal, numerical and non-verbal ability. Each child’s raw scores in the two tests are added together and the resulting score is converted into an age standardised score thus setting all children on an equal footing regardless of when their birthday falls in the year. Registration for the test is automatic for children

Years 8 & 9 Admissions
For late entry applications into Years 8 & 9 to start in September 2022 please see below for full details of the applications timeline including key dates and deadlines.  Please be aware that historically we are unlikely to have many (if any) vacancies in Years 8 & 9, therefore in the majority of cases successful applicants will be given a place on the waiting list for that Year group only.

Year 12 Admissions
They have one of the largest Sixth Forms in the country. Over 90% of our own boys stay on into the Sixth Form, and we admit between 30 and 40 students from local state and independent schools. Almost all combinations of the Advanced Level courses we offer are possible, and our students proceed to a wide range of degree courses at Universities across the United Kingdom, in Europe and in America; as well as to apprenticeships and straight to the world of work.

Clubs and Societies
Students are encouraged to join a wide variety of clubs and societies which exist at lunchtime and after school. Clubs linked directly to subject areas, such as Art, Computing, Cookery, Technology and Maths, enhance classroom learning and enjoyment but also allow students to explore ideas outside the curriculum.
