Aylesbury High School

11-18 Years

Description

Aylesbury High School is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 - 18 ( Gender - Girls )

At AHS, the only girls’ grammar in North Buckinghamshire, they believe that girls’ schools are more relevant today than ever before.  This is because girls’ schools are places where girls take centre stage, where they can seek challenge without fear of failure. They focus not only on what is learned, but also on how it is learned; our students are encouraged to embrace every role and subject and, as a result, they learn to trust in their own abilities. They are also a strong and thriving community which embraces diversity, where each individual is respected and cared for. The academic success is long-established, with excellent exam results that place us amongst the best schools in the county and the country and, whilst these outstanding academic successes are important to them, they balance these with wide-ranging, challenging and inspiring co-curricular opportunities too. The last Ofsted report (2012) highlighted the students’ outstanding personal development, the excellent Sixth Form and the rich and stimulating curriculum. The very wide range of subjects offered (over 25 subjects at both GCSE and A Level) means that particular aptitudes can be accommodated and students are properly equipped to move on to university and life after secondary school.

Curriculum
At AHS, the exceptional outcomes are a consequence of our calm, safe and supportive school environment and the culture that is free from disruption. All members of our community, students, staff and parents, have the same clear expectations of behaviour, and these are supported by clear daily routines as the norm.  The core values of the school are: Confidence, Respect, Engagement, Aspiration, Teamwork and Enjoyment, and our staff and students model these throughout their School life. Students receive praise and rewards for following these expected standards and we may use sanctions to give extra support to students who do not yet meet the expectations. The circumstances when sanctions might be used are clearly communicated to students, staff and parents, on a yearly basis, on our website and around the School site, and any interventions are fairly and consistently applied.

Features

Things to note

Performing Arts
They have a strong tradition of performing arts at AHS. The annual House Music, Dance and Drama competitions are hotly contested, we have a yearly joint production with AGS as well as regular performances and concerts and there are many weekly music groups to take part in.  This year our Rock Challenge dancers won the regional final with a stunning performance.
