Facilities

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
In the Nursery, children develop their personal, emotional and social skills as well as early learning skills in communication and language development, physical development, literacy, mathematics understanding the world and expressive arts and design. Planning, assessment and recording is based on these seven areas of learning and parents receive regular verbal and written reports on their child’s progress. A range of stimulating and enjoyable activities are offered every day and a summary of the weekly plan is sent out to parents in advance each week. The children experience many opportunities beyond the curriculum and curriculum-linked visits enhance their learning. We maintain a high ratio of dedicated and well qualified early years staff and the children also benefit from the expertise of specialist staff in lessons such as Spanish, Music and Physical Education.

Pre Prep (Years 1 & 2)
The children come into our Pre Prep department, excited and ready to learn after a fantastic start to their educational journey in the Early Years. Our provision for children in Years 1 and 2 builds on the EYFS curriculum and follows key elements of the National Curriculum. It is an enhanced and creative programme and includes additional specialist activities and lessons. Teaching and learning opportunities promote active engagement, depth of learning and motivation. In addition, small class sizes are hugely effective in providing a high level of focused teacher involvement with each child.

Prep (Years 3 – 6)
Highly qualified teachers, together with small class sizes provide the best possible education for each and every child in the Prep department. The Prep provides children with a happy and caring community in which to grow and learn. Curiosity thrives in a vibrant and forward thinking co-educational environment. High expectations permeate the Prep and it is an ideal place to develop a life-long love of learning.

Regular performance opportunities are arranged in the school and whole school dramatic and musical productions are performed for parents.

Admission Details

3+ Entry (Ducklings and Nursery)
The earliest point of entry is at the start of the term immediately after your child’s third birthday.  If your child’s birthday falls within the Summer term (April to August) they will enter directly into our Nursery class and complete three terms.  If your child’s birthday falls in the Autumn or Spring terms (September to March) they would be eligible for earlier entry into our Ducklings class, either in January or April, and would spend two terms as a Duckling before moving on to Nursery in September.  Taking up the offer of the additional terms as a Duckling is optional and purely parents’ choice.

4 + Entry (Reception)
Children joining the School in the Reception Class will have a short interview with the Reception Teacher. Those who are then offered a place at the School will be invited to spend a morning with their teacher and classmates. Children who are not attending Daiglen Preparatory Nursery will be invited to attend a short interview before they enter the Reception Class.

Pre-prep and Prep Entry (Years 1 – 6)
Entry higher up the School is subject to assessment via a reading and maths test administered by our assessment coordinator. Following the interview/assessment, the Head Teacher will write to parents to inform them whether or not we are able to offer their child a place.
