Braeside School

Description

Braeside School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 2 to 16 (Gender - 2 to 16 )

Braeside is a small school with a big heart that provides a unique and enjoyable educational experience for girls and boys from 2½ to 16 years old. So that they can ensure that the pupils can receive the individual attention that they deserve, the learning takes place within the safety of the smaller class sizes with teaching that inspires, motivates and develops each one to fulfil their full potential. The children are happy, confident and accustomed to establishing lasting relationships within a positive and calm learning environment. This is an all-through school that aims to nurture and develop the academic, creative and personal skills in each of pupil from the youngest in Kindergarten to the oldest in Year 11. From an academic, social and personal perspective, the focus is to continuously develop and empower the students. They aim to instil a sense of respect and discipline, to encourage confidence and self-belief, and to provide an environment that is safe and secure.

Facilities

Early Years
Life in Early Years for 2½ to 5 year olds, The Early Years Foundation Stage at Braeside includes Kindergarten (2½-4 year olds) and Reception (4 to 5 year olds). Children can begin school from 2½ years, and are able to attend on a part-time or full-time basis during the Kindergarten Years. Lower Kindergarten pupils attend for a minimum of 3 sessions and Upper Kindergarten attend for a minimum of 5 morning sessions. School is full-time in Reception when children reach the age of 5.All children flourish in the Early Years. They have excellent relationships with staff and often exceed their expected levels of progress. Braeside provides a happy and secure environment to learn and the pupils really enjoy their time at school.

Infants
In Years 1 and 2 children build on their Foundation Stage skills and follow an exciting and challenging curriculum in which most lessons are taught by the class teacher.  These include English (literacy), Maths (numeracy), Humanities and Science. In addition there are specialist teachers for a number of subjects including French, ICT, PE, Music and Drama. The deliberately smaller classes allow the children to benefit from more individual attention for every pupil. The transition from Kindergarten to Year 1 is an exciting time for children and our teachers work together closely to ensure a smooth passage.

Juniors (Ages 7 to 10)
As well as a strong focus on the academic subjects and a particular focus in English, Mathematics and Science, the pupils in Years 3 to 6 have a creative and rich curriculum with specialist teachers for Languages, Music, Drama, ICT and Art. We encourage our pupils to be innovative and inquisitive; they want them to be engaged as they believe this enables them to make the maximum progress possible.

Seniors
Years 7 to 11 are the Seniors. The Year 6 pupils are expected to move up to Year 7 and they are joined by new pupils who come to us from a variety of local independent and state junior schools. The classes are deliberately small with around 14-16 pupils in each. This enables a more personalised opportunity for teaching and learning. Pupils of all abilities are able to make good progress and receive regular feedback with more individual attention and tailor-made targets for progression. The School is equipped with two impressive Science labs, an ICT suite, Art/Design Technology rooms, a Music/Drama Studio and a well-stocked library. Learning support continues to be available both to individuals and groups and there is specialist SEND provision on request for a small number of pupils. The Gifted and Talented programme stretches and extends.
