Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
They believe that, every child deserves the best possible start in life and the effective support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years’ providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. The EYFS extends from children’s birth to the end of the Reception year, and children can enter our school nursery from 3 years old. Entry into our school is at the beginning of the School year in which the children are five years old.

Key Stage 1
All children take a phonics screening test in Year 1, when your child will read 40 words out loud to a teacher. You will find out how your child did, and their teacher will assess whether he or she needs extra help with reading. If your child does not do well enough in the check, they will have to do it again in Year 2. They use a blend of phonics resources to support our children, including ‘Read Write Inc.’ ‘Jolly Phonics’ and ‘Letters and Sounds’. The School has achieved outstanding success supporting its children in passing their phonics screening test, being in the top 4% of schools nationally.

Key Stage 2
These assessments are a way of making sure every pupil has mastered the basics when they leave primary education. The results help teachers to identify where children may need extra help or support as they move into Year 7 and begin their secondary education.Your child’s individual results, for both tests and teacher assessment judgements, will not be published by either the School or the Department for Education (DfE). However, school-level results of pupils’ attainment and progress are published on the DfE’s school performance tables website.

Things to note

Extra-Curricular Activities
They offer a range of additional services, starting with a breakfast club at 8.00am, after care provision immediately after school, and an extra-curricular programme which runs daily.  In short, the School is run by the community, for the community. The overriding aim is to provide a programme of activities which capture the aptitudes and interests of the children in the care.  With this in mind, the Trust makes provision for a range of booster and enrichment activities in the school holidays.  This is an opportunity for children to enrich their learning, try out new things, have fun and meet friends.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
To support your children's speech, language and communication needs, Speech and Language Link have fast tracked the launch of their new Parent Portal to help with this. The site is now live and will provide parents with FREE speech and language advice, resources and activities.
