They place emphasis on supporting one another and mutual respect - students’ behaviour clearly reflects this around school, in their charitable work and the way they treat one another. The school’s motto is ‘Cor Unum via Una’ – one in heart and goal. We value hard work and encourage students to strive for excellence in all fields of their lives. Students are prepared for life beyond school with the academic, social and emotional skills they will need, whilst ensuring they have fun and enjoy their time at school, building strong friendships and gaining the confidence they will require to excel. Queen Elizabeth’s was founded in 1566 and we celebrated our 450th anniversary in 2016. We are now a Selective Academy, currently having approximately 540 pupils on roll.
Key Stage 3
Each year is divided into three house groups (forms) - Cecil, Spanning and Travers. In the first two years (7&8) these groups are also the main basic teaching groups and pupils remain in these form groups throughout the school (Y7-Y13). All pupils follow the National Curriculum.
Curriculum - GCSE
The scheme for optional subjects in Years 9 to 11 is devised following consultation with pupils and parents. In Key Stage Four, all pupils must study English (language and literature), Mathematics, double / triple award Science, Business Studies, Humanities (History / Geography), Modern Foreign Languages (French / German), Religious Studies, non-examination physical education and personal, social and health education (tutorial). At the end of Year 11 pupils sit at least eleven GCSE examinations
Curriculum - A Level
Sixth Form students take three or four subjects at A level or equivalent plus pre-teaching as an extra option if they choose it. Games lessons are compulsory for all upper school pupils.
Sixth Form
They offer a wide range of options - a choice of 20 A levels which will give access to any degree course in the country. Our Pre-teaching course was set up by us (and now the model used by others) and is an invaluable acquisition for anyone considering teaching as a future career. The academic record at Queen Elizabeth's is excellent. The pass rate is consistently 100% with all students gaining at least 3 A Level passes. Our results in summer 2016 of 79 % A*- B grades were the highest that any school in the county had ever attained; this year's placed us top again.

Queen Elizabeth's Grammar, Alford believes that all pupils have a right to a broad, balanced, relevant and inclusive curriculum that challenges them to achieve academic and personal success. The academy aims to encourage and foster the development of all pupils. It is our intention to identify any barriers to learning at an early stage and to ensure that provision is put in place for any specific needs or difficulties. To ensure these needs are supported successfully there is a graduated response that includes teachers, parents and pupils. The relatively smaller size of the school is an advantage as it enables us to ascertain the needs of an individual pupil more easily.
