Description

Fairfield Academy is a State Primary school for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

At Fairfield Academy, they are continually striving to excite and motivate the pupils through a rich and inspiring curriculum, which supports each child to reach their full academic potential. They want the children to enjoy learning and develop an understanding of the world around them, whilst highlighting the importance of aspirations and achievement. The staff work tirelessly to provide a curriculum that is not only engaging and challenging, but offers a diverse range of learning opportunities and experiences. This is underpinned by a strong emphasis on the development of the pupils’ social, emotional, spiritual and moral values. OFSTED stated, ‘ Pupils are polite and display good attitudes to learning and play throughout school. Pupils know that it is important to show respect to everyone and are developing good moral values.’

Facilities

Curriculum
The academy aims to maintain a broad and balanced child-centred curriculum. They aim for a creative curriculum, which, although linked to national curriculum objectives, seeks to reflect the particular interests and needs of the pupils at different stages of their development. Topics are planned with input and feedback from pupils and delivered in a creative, innovative way that stimulates engagement.Topics chosen are cross curricular to ensure they cover a range of knowledge, skills and understanding relevant to more than one subject. Pupils are encouraged to be active learners who evidence enquiring and critical minds when approaching new learning experiences. Topics embrace real-life contexts aimed at developing skills as diverse as formal letter writing and testing hypotheses.

Special educational needs and disability (SEND)
The school employs a Learning Mentor who works with pupils who may require additional support to access learning due to emotional, social or behavioural difficulties. Often, these pupils are those who have SEN.The Learning Mentor also monitors attendance data carefully, and supports pupils and families who may have difficulties in this area. Educational Welfare Officers may become involved if it is deemed necessary. Some of the school’s SEN pupils are currently under the CAF process, and therefore regular multi-agency meetings are held. Relevant professionals and outside agencies are involved, as well the pupil’s parents. Pastoral, social and medical support can be provided through the CAF process e.g. through agencies such as FAST, FRS, and CAMHS.

Features

Things to note

Enrichment
They believe in giving our pupils a broad, rich curriculum, and create as many opportunities as possible to enrich their learning. All year groups have at least one School trip as part of their curriculum, with outside visitors and other opportunities built in to enrich and enhance the children's educational experience.Throughout the year the school is visited by various people and agencies including the school nurse, health officials, the fire service and academy advisers.

Activities
At Fairfield Academy, they have a range of activities and clubs to cater for the interests and needs of every child. Various clubs are offered to pupils at different times of the year, depending on demand and the availability of adults to run them. Details are sent out to the relevant year groups at the beginning of each term describing the activities on offer during that term, and reminders are included in the newsletters. A small charge is made for some after-school sessions.

Sport
Sport is a very important part of life at Fairfield Academy. Not only does it help foster a healthy lifestyle, it teaches children about the nature of winning and losing and working as part of a team. They make sure the sports clubs and PE lessons are varied to ensure every child will be able to participate in something they enjoy. From football to dodgeball there is something for every child at Fairfield Academy. They regularly take part in competitions with local schools and clubs, including other academies within the David Ross Education Trust.
