Features

Things to note

  • Whether you are a beginner or an elite sportsperson, King’s Ely Junior offers a valuable experience and myriad opportunities for all to enjoy.
  • Over a third of pupils throughout the school learn a musical instrument or receive vocal tuition and the quality, range and variety of ensembles all attest to the school’s musical pedigree.
  • With arguably the best stretch of river for rowing in the country, it is not surprising that King’s Ely has been a strong force in UK rowing for many years. As one of the major sports available to students from Year 8, rowing is enormously popular at King’s Ely.
  • The Art department is a thriving, inspiring environment where all students are encouraged to engage fully with the state-of-the-art facilities available.
  • King’s has an outstanding Drama and Theatre department with a long history of being a valuable and distinguished part of school life. The department drives to better itself each year with new facilities, first-class productions, accessible courses for all, high standards of teaching, and extra-curricular events and clubs.
  • From the high peaks of the Andes and Himalayas to the gushing torrents of the rivers in the Alps, the Ely Scheme offers boundless opportunities for pupils to explore and learn through outdoor education. A comprehensive and progressive programme of outdoor activities run throughout Year 9 is the lead-in to greater adventures on the rock face, rivers and mountains.
  • At King’s Ely, they aim to offer trips and expeditions, both during term-time and in the holidays.

The day will also include an informal interview with the Head, Mr Whymark. Children are invited to attend lessons and activities when not sitting assessments.

Senior admissions: Entry assessments are carried out via the CAT4 online platform covering verbal and non-verbal reasoning. The computerised tests take just over 90 minutes.

Sixth Form admissions: All registered students for Year 12 entry in 2022/23 are invited to attend an interview with the Head of King’s Ely Senior, Vice Principal Academic, or The Principal. Predicted grades are requested from a student’s current school. Those students not following a British curriculum will be required to take assessments in English and Maths. The assessments can be taken remotely. Interviews can be carried out via Skype.
