Infants (Ages 5 to 7)
In Years 1 and 2 our children build on their Foundation Stage skills. They enjoy learning in a friendly, family environment and are taught by their class teacher for the majority of the time. They benefit from specialist teachers in PE, Science, French, ICT, Music and Dance.Whole-school resources continue to be available, such as the large ICT Suite, Dance Studio/Music Room, Art Room and oak-panelled Library. Classrooms are equipped with an excellent range of learning resources and there are many opportunities for creative, social and emotional development. Great importance is attached to the acquisition of social skills and we encourage respect and consideration for others.
Juniors (Ages 7 to 11)
As well as a strong focus on the academic subjects and a particular focus in English, Mathematics and Science, our pupils in Years 3 to 6 have a creative and rich curriculum with specialist teachers for Languages, PE/Games, Music, Drama, ICT and Science. We encourage our pupils to be innovative and inquisitive; we want them to be engaged as we believe this enables them to make the maximum progress possible.Year 6 pupils are given additional responsibilities such as prefects, house captains, sports captains and playground buddies. These roles enable them to develop their leadership skills and they relish the extra responsibility.
Seniors
They are delighted to announce that Epping Forest District Council has granted planning consent to develop Bakers Cottage into classrooms and other facilities for a new senior department at Coopersale Hall School. The aim is to have around around 20 pupils per year group, often taught in smaller classes. Coopersale Hall children will be able to move automatically into the seniors. There will then be external exams for students looking to join us into the seniors from other local schools. We will continue to prepare children for 11+ entry for several years in order to provide more choice to our families.
Music
In Years 7 to 9 the pupils study about the history of music and gain a more in depth understanding of the musical elements. They can expect to understand tones and semi tones, sharps and flats, as well as various performance aspects. They have an extensive range of individual and group private instrument lessons with qualified tutors and a senior mixed choir. We encourage formal music grades and offer music theory classes after school hours to help any pupils interested in taking exams.
Drama
During Years 6 to 9 our pupils explore a variety of issues and ideas that relate to society. They work individually, in small groups and as a whole class to develop their skills, techniques and styles including mime, musical theatre, improvisation, scripts, Theatre in Education and slapstick. Older pupils learn about using costume, working behind the scenes and preparing for GCSE Drama if selected.Pupils are aware of their National Curriculum levels and how to achieve the next grade. They verbally peer and self-assess and complete assessment sheets to reflect on how well they have done in group work, individual work and final performances.
