St. Anthony’s School for Girls is an independent Catholic school located in Ivy House, on North End Road, NW11. It opened in 2016 as the sister school to the highly successful St. Anthony’s School for Boys in Hampstead.St. Anthony’s School for Girls teaches pupils in a Catholic environment, and is inclusive and open to other faiths. The school educates girls from the ages of 4 – 11. The school is also home to the new co-educational nursery which opened in September 2021 and feeds into both the Girls’ school and the Boys’ school.They proudly celebrate the culturally diverse, multi faith community and teach tolerance and respect for all faiths within our Catholic environment. We share the ethos and values of our sister school, St. Anthony’s School for Boys and teach these key moral values as part of our religious curriculum and through our day to day interactions with pupils.
Early Years
The aim within the EYFS Reception class at St. Anthony’s School for Girls is to provide a firm foundation on which all aspects of education are built. They aim to provide a curriculum that is broad and balanced in content and wide-ranging in approach, helping to ensure future progress and success. We believe that we should create a learning environment that is motivating, exciting and caring, in order to contribute to the children’s positive self-esteem and love of learning.
Nursery
St Anthony’s Schools are delighted to announce that St Anthony’s Nursery opened its doors in September 2021. The nursery is a co-educational learning environment based at the Girls’ School, welcoming girls and boys aged two-and-a-half to four.The pre-school curriculum follows the statutory framework set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage which emphasises both adult and child-led activities. Particular focus is be given to communication and language, physical development and emotional development. Our provision aims to build knowledge, skills, and confidence so that children are well-equipped to transfer into their full-time pre-prep education.
Prep School
The Prep School at St. Anthony’s School for Girl’s equips each pupil with the academic ability, social awareness, confidence and self-motivation required for a natural transition to senior school. Core subjects are taught across year groups by specialist teachers.A greater depth of learning is achieved through continual challenges and thoughtful questioning. Pupils are also encouraged to pose their own questions to broaden their knowledge of a subject. Moral questions and critical thinking are woven into the school day through class discussions around literature, pondering a ‘big question’ during whole school assembly or tackling a problem-solving task in mathematics.
Tooled Up
They aim to provide holistic support to everyone in our school community, in all areas of family life, which is why St Anthony’s School for Girls subscribes to Tooled Up Education. This gives all of our families privileged access to a regularly updated digital library, full of evidence-based tips, simple activities, advice-packed videos and enlightening podcasts, on all matters relating to parenting and family life. Tooled Up Education is curated by one of the UK’s leading experts on parental engagement in children’s lives and learning, Dr Kathy Weston.
Virtual Learning Platform
The girls had daily live lessons with their class teachers including English and Maths. These were complemented by a range of different live lessons in other curriculum areas including Art, Ballet, Mandarin, French, Drama, Science, Singing and Philosophy.
Sport
At St. Anthony’s School for Girls, we aim to develop skills and techniques in a range of sporting activities. Through a carefully designed programme, our pupils will gain physical skills and perform them with increasing competence and confidence, in an array of physical activities and contexts.
Drama
Drama takes place as part of the school curriculum within English and promotes the development of pupils’ imagination, self-confidence and self- esteem. Drama aims to enhance a number of key life skills including communication and public speaking.
Music
The aim is to develop the children’s sensitivity to and understanding of music through a comprehensive program of activities covering the four core aspects of performing, composing, listening and appraising. Our curriculum will develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of a wide range of music and develop and extend the skills necessary to enable pupils to participate in a wide range of musical activities.
Extra-Curricular Activities
On a typical day at St Anthony’s School, the girls have a choice of at least three extra-curricular activities to choose from. There are also a wide range of peripatetic classes available including cello, guitar, piano and singing.
Selection Criteria: Selective
2 1/2+
Although there is no formal assessment for places at the nursery, we value the opportunity to meet with all prospective Nursery children.
4+
The 4+ assessments are conducted informally; it will include play-based activities to determine strengths in their development, role play tasks to observe social skills and puzzle and games to explore potential.
7+
The 7+ assessments involve an age appropriate assessment in English (including reading, writing and spelling) and Mathematics and an opportunity to spend some quality time with Year 2. This individualised assessment will be followed by ‘talk time’ with the Headteacher.
