The happiness and wellbeing of all our girls is at the heart of everything that we do, and we celebrate them as they begin to develop lifelong passions and interests across the curriculum.
Curriculum
The school curriculum is essentially divided into three phases:
The Early Years Foundation Stage (for children aged 5 and under)
Key Stage 1 (5 – 7 year olds)
Key Stage 2 (8 – 11 year olds)
By means of appropriate development activities and adult support, the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum leads to the acquisition of the Early Learning Goals and prepares children to progress with confidence towards the National Curriculum.
KS1 provides a happy and caring environment in which the pupils are encouraged to develop and flourish.
The National Curriculum is followed and enriched. High priority is given to the core subjects – English, mathematics, science and computing. There is particular emphasis on the acquisition of reading and numeracy skills. In Year 2 pupils will complete the KS1 standard attainment tests (SATS) during the first part of the Summer Term.
Activities & Enrichment
Sparking and cultivating interests is incredibly important to us at Lyonsdown School. We provide extensive opportunities for the girls to discover their own personal interests and talents. We offer a range of lunch clubs and after school activities that vary from term to term (for a full and up-to-date list of activities please contact the School Office). Some of our activities are taught by our own talented staff and included in the fees; others are run by experts brought into school (for which there is an extra charge).
Trips & Visits
Trips and visits are a regular and exciting part of school life. They offer a range of different, age-appropriate educational trips and outings, as well as welcoming an array of visitors to the School to support and develop the girls’ learning journey.
Learning Support
At Lyonsdown, we are committed to offering all children a broad and balanced curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all our pupils. They use the principles as detailed in the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEN and Disability Code of Practice 0-25 Years 2014 (SEND Code 2015) as appropriate for our school. Special needs at Lyonsdown is defined as being ‘if a child has a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made’.
