Description

Open Box Education Centre provides a programme of alternative education for students aged between 14 and 16 years in Years 10 and 11. They are an independent day provision for pupils with who typically have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and who are at risk of exclusion or have been excluded from mainstream education.

Facilities

They place equal value on the educational, social and psychological development of pupils and use a whole school community approach to help vulnerable young people to do better than their circumstances might have predicted by developing academic resilience in our pupils.

Things to note

  • As part of the programme, students will have the opportunity to take part in a number of additional elements such as outdoor activities at Lambourne End Activity Centre and visits to places of interest such as wildlife centres, museums and theatres.
  • Each day begins with a 20 minute starter lesson which allows students to learn about current affairs, questions of belief, faith and ethics, wider world issues, history and geography through presentation and discussion. This is an important time for students to broaden their knowledge, develop opinions, increase confidence and practise vital discussion skills.

Admission Details

Pupils are accepted on to the programme on a referral basis only by the local authority. Pupils are offered a full time programme of between 20 and 25 hours a week. The programme covers two years and is taught over five days each week. A pupil’s programme may include an extended work experience placement. Learning takes place in an informal environment and with a staff-to-student ratio of at least one-to-four, and often one-to-two. We offer appropriate qualifications and accreditation suitable for students of all levels who would achieve more effectively through short and varied learning opportunities.

Open Box Education Centre is an independent alternative provision school registered with the Department for Education to provide full time education for up to 16-20 students in Years 10 & 11 and is subject to inspections by OFSTED. Open Box Education Centre is also registered with Essex County Council on the Essex Directory of Alternative Providers.

Annual fees (day pupils): £23, 500 to £60,000
