Description

Chigwell Junior School is a Independent Primary School for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed)

Chigwell School was founded in 1629 and for nearly four centuries we have been preparing pupils to go out into the world. Clearly that world has evolved a great deal since then, and whilst they are conscious of the long heritage, they are always looking to innovate so that Chigwellians are well-prepared to contribute positively, to inspire change for the better and to continue learning throughout their lives. They are very proud of the pupils and they strive to ensure that, through the curriculum and the wide range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom, each becomes the very best they can be: independent in spirit, adventurous in approach and empathetic in how they treat others.

Facilities

Pre Prep
OThe purpose-built Pre Prep offers our pupils and staff a state-of-the-art, bespoke building with a spacious assembly hall, library, and dedicated teaching and playing areas specially designed for this age group. This enables our youngest pupils to have a flying start to school life. A committed team of staff work hard to create a caring and supportive atmosphere for the young people in our charge. Home-school partnership is also highly valued and the Pre Prep operates an ‘open door’ policy for parents. A high quality pastoral care structure is in place to ensure the health, safety, happiness and achievement of every child in the School. Pupils and their families quickly get to know each other and establish friendships that will last throughout their time at Chigwell and beyond.

Junior School
They provide the children with the space to grow, not only as learners but also as people who will thrive in the modern world. As a school they give them the confidence to be themselves and to follow and develop their interests. The teaching is excellent and our teachers are skilled not only in the classroom but also in providing the care and individual attention that the children need. Class sizes are small and this allows us to get to know the children as individuals and to adapt their education accordingly.

Senior School
Pupils enter the Senior School in Year 9, although they will have been following a senior school curriculum since the start of Year 7. This is both an exciting and increasingly serious phase as pupils’ development, emotionally and academically, accelerates quickly towards maturity. This phase incorporates the development of skills to successfully pass public exams, embrace university life and make career choices. We work to prepare each pupil to meet these objectives to the best of his or her ability. Meanwhile, there continues to be a wide range of opportunities outside of the classroom and a variety of pastoral support to help pupils tackle the challenges of teenage life.

Things to note

Learning Support
Every pupil has a different learning style and pace. They are committed to helping pupils with a range of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), in order for them to reach their full potential in a safe environment. Although Chigwell is a selective school, they recognise that, on occasions, individual pupils might need learning support in part or all of their school work. They have a dedicated Learning Support Department which offers support and guidance to pupils throughout their time at the School.
