Tram House School is an Independent Special School for autistic children and young adults aged 11-19 years (Year 7 – Year 14). Tram House School includes a Sixth Form provision which is based at South Thames College.

Facilities

At Tram House School they:

  • Use Individual Education Programmes (IEPs) aimed at teaching appropriate and functional behaviours
  • Break down skills into achievable goals
  • Use data to measure achievement and success of teaching methods
  • Maximize opportunities for our pupils to respond and actively participate in learning
  • Generalise and maintain learned skills
  • Use group learning to teach relevant academic skills
  • Work closely with the Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy teams
  • Are a signing community, and all staff are trained in Makaton sign language and other forms of communication styles.

Things to note

  • Music therapy is available to children and young people of all ages and abilities across the school and is adjusted to their developmental needs.
  • Pupils are offered weekly, individual or group sessions depending on their needs and the work can be short or long term, depending on the reason for the referral and/or their engagement with the process.

Admission Details

To be eligible for admission to Tram House School, pupils must:

  • Be between 11 and 19 years of age
  • Have a diagnosis of autism or a related communication difficulty
  • Have an Education, Health and Care Plan or Statement of Special Educational Needs or be in the process of gaining one
  • Have the appropriate age, skills and behaviour for the vacancy that exists.
  • Live within a feasible commuting distance (defined as a journey time of no more than 90 minutes in accordance with Google Maps).
