Facilities

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from 0-5 years of age.  It is an important stage of development because it helps children get ready for school and prepares them for their future learning and successes. At the Village School, we follow the statutory framework for EYFS 2021 and we use the government’s non-statutory curriculum, Development Matters

Primary School
The Primary School is committed to providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum education that engages, motivates, excites and challenges our learners whilst preparing them for the future. Our curriculum is sequenced and personalised to meet the needs of our learners, enabling them to reach their full potential and prepare them to take their place in society. We believe our pupils deserve the best provision possible, and therefore, we have high expectations and regularly review and evaluate the curriculum to ensure it is fit for its purpose.

Secondary School
The Secondary curriculum was derived with the view that each learner’s needs can vary a great deal depending on their circumstances and personal abilities, as well as the nature of their disability, hence, there are likely to be gaps in their functional abilities, educational achievement, and attainment.Progress of learners is more likely to be spikey than linear in nature. Some learners may find it very difficult to perform basic skills necessary to live independently and safely. Their communication skills may be underdeveloped. It might be very challenging for some learners to effectively complete some academic skills such as basic literacy or numeracy. Consequently, learners may demonstrate a variety of challenging behaviours.

Post 16
They are a Sixth Form where: Learning is engaging, varied & well-planned. Learners share in their responsibility to learn. Learners properly prepare and contribute to their time in The Village School Sixth Form both academically & pastorally. Learners and staff attempt to achieve high standards in all aspects of work and attendance. Lessons provoke interest, challenge and develop Learners’ knowledge of the subject and its broader context in the curriculum and PFA/careers/society. All Learners contribute to the life of the school and its community.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS
The Village School Expressive Arts Curriculum Overview. A big emphasis is placed on the Expressive Arts at The Village School as it is an area in which our pupils over time have achieved very successful outcomes, both in terms of formal qualifications and also with regards to self-esteem, communication, behaviour, independence and developing self-expression.

SPIRITUAL, MORAL, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL (SMSC)
SMSC stands for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development. All schools in England must show how well their pupils develop in SMSC. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development is crucial for individual students and it is crucial for society as a whole. We believe it is the heart of what education is all about - helping pupils grow and develop as people and effective participants in modern Britain.
