Features

Things to note

At Fine Arts College we always aim to find something exceptional in our students – by giving them the freedom to learn. We encourage a community atmosphere in which students’ talents and ambitions are supported. We also provide a real and unique bridge between school and university.

Most students at Fine Arts College come to us looking for a private college environment that will help them to grow academically and creatively. Many have found that other schools’ approaches to work are too prescriptive and rigid, which can be counterproductive and stifling for many students.

The College has won numerous national awards from the Good Schools Guide, including the Award for Excellence for Boys taking Media/Film/TV studies; the Award for Excellence for Girls taking Art and Design and Photography; and Best Independent School for Boys for Art and Design Photography. These achievements are the product of our collaborative fine arts school ethos, in which everyone is encouraged to pursue their passion and develop their talents.

Extra Curricular

  • Photography is a very popular subject within Fine Arts College.
  • Fashion/Textile Design is a 2-year fine art-based course, aimed at developing skills, techniques and creativity in fashion and textiles. The course will start with an introduction to Fashion/Textile Design, where students will develop understanding and skills through a creative approach to research and practical work.
  • Music is a universal language and an essential part of the human experience, one of the most important and longstanding forms of art.
  • There are regular tutorials and assessments and each student is able to explore his or her own enthusiasms and interests.
  • Drama and Theatre Studies is an exciting, collaborative and practical, as well as academic, subject choice.

Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

  • Hampstead Fine Arts does not select prospective students on the basis of prior academic performance: instead, they believe that students should be assessed on the basis of their academic and creative potential.
  • They admit students with a wide range of abilities, and pride ourselves on record of helping them to succeed regardless of their previous experience of education. Often, previous schooling may have taken place in a system that has not connected with their strengths as a student.
  • Students who have a particular talent may not have had an opportunity to develop it, due to the ‘one size fits all’ approach common in secondary schooling. At Hampstead Fine Arts, they recognise that every student has different strengths, and require only that they make a wholehearted effort to contribute to the community.
  • The admissions process and criteria may differ slightly depending on your son or daughter’s age and whether they wish to join for Year 9, GCSE, A Level or Portfolio stage. In each case, the College will take into account a satisfactory record at GCSE, A Level.

BOWKETT FINANCIAL AWARDS

Laurence Bowkett taught at Hampstead Fine Arts from 1988 until his death in 2002.
