Description

Trevor-Roberts School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 4 to 13 (Gender - 4 to 13 )

Trevor-Roberts School is an independent day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 13 years. High success rates throughout the school are achieved through small classes and individual attention. Academic and social self-confidence and a sense of responsibility are built up in a happy atmosphere, geared to increasing motivation and encouraging pupils to fulfil their potential. It is the strong belief that much can be expected of a child if she or he is given self-confidence and a sense of personal worth and does not feel judged against the attainments of others. When children move on at 11+ or 13+ to senior school, they do so with an academic rigour and a love of learning. This allows them to succeed in a larger and more impersonal academic environment – something that will support them throughout their lives. Our endeavour is to help children find the confidence to question, communicate and become active yet sympathetic members of their future society

Facilities

Mathematics
Throughout the school, children are encouraged to have a very positive attitude to Mathematics and to relish the challenge of the subject. From the youngest form upwards, supportive and inspiring teachers help each child to build numeracy and reasoning skills through focused lessons, puzzles and practical application.

English
They aim to inspire a deep love of reading in our pupils.  Abundant reading ensures a rich vocabulary, confidence with following a narrative, imaginative engagement with stories and proficiency in using reference and non-fiction material. In the early years each child’s reading is listened to every day, and, once they can read independently pupils enjoy daily reading and study sessions.

French
They introduce MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) with games, songs and puppets in Octavus, moving on to writing and speaking with spontaneity and independence in Primus.Children at Trevor-Roberts embark on a language journey, where their French is developed year on year.

Geography
Geography at Trevor Roberts is a challenging and vibrant subject where there is scope for students to explore the ever changing world around us.Geography is taught right through from Octavus to the Common Entrance syllabus in Primus and Secundus. Students are engaged through the practical aspects of the subjects from mapping skills to field work.

History
The History Department develops and promotes an interest into the past. It equips pupils with the skills to succeed as an historian; careful source analysis and evaluation, critical thought and intellectual curiosity.Pupils are encouraged to take creative approaches to learning and to use their imagination to help them understand what the past may have been like. Children will learn that history was not just a series of events but a dynamic process of change and continuity.

Features

Things to note

Music
Christopher Trevor-Roberts was a trained opera singer and believed strongly in the value of music as part of a child’s education. Music, and especially singing, remains central to the life of the school. A number of children move on to their senior schools with music scholarships. Recent leavers have gained awards at Eton, Westmister, UCS, Highgate and Francis Holland.

Art
The department’s main aim is to foster a love of Art and a confidence in making. We believe in the significance of creativity and the value it has in education. Art is taught across the school, with a diverse syllabus promoting appreciation for the subject and equipping the children with an understanding of how to communicate visually. The Art studio is extremely well resourced, giving the children the opportunity to experiment and become secure in a wide range of media. Importance is placed on drawing and a grounding in traditional techniques – which can then springboard into other disciplines.

Sport
Children look forward to sports and games lessons, which provide a contrast to the intensity of the academic timetable. Sports sessions help the children to develop social skills and learn the importance of give and take. Where possible, children should have the opportunity to take part in competitive events and matches if they wish to do so, rather than there being a first eleven team to which they should aspire. Most important, sports should be fun.
