Pre-School children participate in timetabled French, Music, Art and games are taught by specialist teachers.
Pre-Prep (4-7 years)
Children join our Pre-Prep department in the September after their fourth birthday. A dedicated class teacher teaches the core curriculum while French, Music and Games are taught by specialist teachers. Subject co-ordinators also give additional support when necessary.
Prep (7-11 years)
When they are seven in Year 3, children join Prep department and become a member of one of the four houses - Abbey, Crescent, Holburne and Milsom. Subject divisions become more defined at this stage, with more subjects taught by specialist teachers. Over four years, they help children develop into confident independent learners, with the skills to make a happy and confident start in their senior school.
Senior School (11-18 years)
The senior school is Prior Park College which is located a short distance away at the top of Ralph Allen Drive. Each year the majority of Year 6 pupils progress to Prior Park. Being located near to Prior Park College brings many practical benefits. It provides the children with access to superb facilities such as the indoor swimming pool, brand new all-weather pitches, athletics track, tennis courts and the Bury Sports Centre. We also use Prior Park's theatre, design and technology department, science labs and other facilities.
Creative Arts: Art, Drama and Music
The Paragon's bespoke Art Studio is an Aladdin's Cave of treasures which have been created and curated by children over the years. The Head of Art, Ms Alex Hucks is inspirational and ambitious, and all year groups from Squirrels to Year 6 benefit from specialist art lessons with her each week. The children will try their hand at drawing, painting, pottery, still life, sculpture, 3D design, printmaking collage and sewing during their time at the school. In 2018, a series of works created by Paragon Pupils and inspired by the artist Alfred Wallis was displayed in the National Gallery as part of their 'Take one Picture' initiative.
Sport
The primary aim of the Sports Department is to instil a love of sport, from Pre-School through to Year 6. They introduce all the children to a wide range of sports whilst teaching a healthy and respectful attitude towards competition. The emphasis is always on enjoyment and being the best we can be. We believe that if children enjoy their sport, they will want to learn more and they will subsequently achieve more.
Outdoor Learning
The Paragon is set in eight acres of beautiful grounds with woodland, conservation areas, lawns, streams, and both paved and grassy areas for play. A large play area surrounded by Astroturf and a low-level assault course help to make play times exciting and fun. They use the grounds and, in particular, our woodlands as the outdoor classrooms and they use them right across the curriculum. There is plenty of space for when the children need to run around, express themselves physically and burn off some of their energy.
Clubs and societies
A variety of exciting clubs are on offer to all throughout the academic year to give your child the opportunity to explore each subject out of the classroom setting. The extra-curricular activities range from pottery and chess to sewing club and Samba Band with over 65 clubs which run throughout the year at lunchtime and after school so the children can enjoy variety. For the majority of activities the emphasis is on enjoyment and exploring new interests. Some of the clubs are by invitation only; this enables us to provide the children with opportunities appropriate for their level. Art clubs are offered for children in Years 1-6 and are hugely popular. All clubs are advertised to parents termly, by email, and the art clubs operate on a sign-up rotation to ensure that all pupils wanting to, can join at some point during the school year.
