Features

Things to note

  • The Art and Design Department is a lively, popular and creative hub within Monkton. The study of art is a journey of exploration and the aim is to undertake projects that stretch the appreciation and understanding of the aesthetic, technical and conceptual aspects of art. Students undertake a programme that covers many diagnostic processes as they write and develop their own projects and interests in the subject.
  • In Drama Department it is their passion to include all students who wish to be involved in the productions, and to help them to utilise their existing skills and provide opportunities to learn new ones.
  • Music at Monkton is for everyone. Just under 40% of pupils learn a musical instrument, with 10% learning two or more.
  • Monkton isn’t just an all-round school, it is a school committed to all-rounders. Unlike many schools where 10% of children lead on 90% of activities, they actively seek and select those who want to play a game of hockey, then sing with the ‘Choir Who Can’t Sing’, then head off to a play rehearsal before conservation club or fencing.
  • On the unrivalled and award winning playing fields, pupils' development and successes are built on the foundation of Monkton’s strong sporting tradition which is committed to providing an extensive sporting programme focussing upon participation, as well as excellence. They produce at least two teams in every age group in each of the School’s major sports: rugby, hockey, rowing and cricket for the boys and hockey, netball, rowing and tennis for the girls.
