Facilities

FIR CONES NURSERY (AGE 2)
The Fir Cones nursery room is attached to the Kindergarten enabling the excellent early years provision to be utilised by the youngest children. The care is based on The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. The nursery sessions are play-based and develop in response to the children’s needs, interests and achievements.  Staff encourage children to explore their interests and work to foster a high self esteem in each individual. Research shows how children who develop their own interests show higher levels of engagement and progress well within their own development and absorb more information.

FIR CONES KINDERGARTEN (AGES 3 – 4)
The Firs Kindergarten is open to children aged 3 and 4 who can attend from between two and five full day sessions. Children may join the Pre-School Kindergarten class immediately after their 3rd birthday. The experienced Kindergarten leader and a team of highly qualified practitioners within the Pre-School department are sensitive to the individual needs of each child in their care. We understand that a child’s first years are crucial and that their environment must be full of broad, first hand experiences in order for them to grow and develop.

FOUNDATION STAGE 1 (4 YEAR OLDS)
The Foundation Stage 1 Class is for children who are 4 years old and are preparing to join Reception the following academic year. The children are located next to the current Reception class within the main school buildings. FS1 enables children to begin preparation for their next step as they build familiarity with the environment, staff and peers. The group sizes are kept small to ensure the children feel safe and secure as they prepare to transition and have the opportunity to build relationships with the children they will be playing and interacting with in September when they join full time school.

RECEPTION CLASS (AGES 4-5)
Children move up into the Reception class in the September after their fourth birthday. Class sizes are small with high teacher to child ratio ensuring that the children receive the best possible care and learning opportunities. The Reception environment is well resourced with a reading corner, role play area, creative and imaginative exploration area, mathematics area as well as space for focused teaching and quiet work to take place. Throughout the day children will be engaged in whole class, small group and individual work with the teacher and teaching assistant.

INFANTS – YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2
Children move from Early Years into Year 1 class. Class sizes are small with a maximum of 20 children. The broad and balanced curriculum follows all the subjects of the National Curriculum and builds upon the firm foundations developed in the Early Years. They have high academic standards and encourage every child to complete each activity and task to the best of their abilities. As children enter  Key Stage 1 they begin a more formal learning program, as well as Maths and English the children also study Science, ICT, Religious Education, Humanities, French, Art, Design Technology, Music, Drama, Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE).

JUNIORS – KEY STAGE 2 – YEARS 3, 4, 5 AND 6
As children move into the juniors they begin to access the wide and varied junior curriculum. They continue providing our children with a love of learning and a sense of purpose and place in the world. Giving our children the opportunities to develop into confident, articulate, aspiring and responsible learners, equipped to tackle whatever life throws at them, to forge an exciting and fulfilling future for themselves is at the heart of all we doAs children move into Years 5 and 6 we are aware that the next steps are very much on the mind of parents and children. The experienced staff are familiar with the entrance requirement for all the main secondary schools and work hard to prepare and sensitively support the children throughout the process.
