Maple Grove School is a small, independent school catering for children who are on the autism spectrum, and who may have a range of additional needs. They use a range of best practice strategies and interventions to deliver highly individualised learning opportunities for our pupils, combining core National Curriculum subjects within an overarching, bespoke autism-specific curriculum.
Maple Grove was originally the site of Hoole and Newton School, which was built in 1912. The building has been carefully restored and refurbished, creating a calm and inviting environment combining the old-world charm of an historic building, with modern, carefully planned learning spaces suitable for specialist learning. In addition to bright and spacious classrooms, they have a sensory room and several flexible spaces in which we can deliver enriched curriculum opportunities catering towards meeting individual needs. Outside, they have spacious grounds including a recently resurfaced playground, a separate grassed play area, sensory gardens, and smaller enclosed courtyards for individuals and small groups.
The ultimate aim at Maple Grove is to prepare students for life in modern Britain, and whatever the next stage of their journey may be, whether that is employment, further education, or something else entirely. The individually tailored curriculum covers all National Curriculum subjects in imaginative and flexible ways. In addition, they deliver an autism-specific curriculum based on the following eight areas of the Autism Education Trust’s Pupil Progression Framework

Admissions Process: All pupils admitted to Maple Grove will have been initially referred by their Local Authority (LA). If, after reviewing the information provided, the school believes that the pupil meets the admission criteria, arrangements will be made with the LA for the parents/carers and pupil to visit the school. The visit will include a tour of the school, introduction to key staff and a meeting at which the school policies and curriculum are discussed. Visitors will also have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. If, following these visits, all parties are agreed that the pupil’s needs can be met at the school and that the pupil and parent/carers are committed to the placement, arrangements will be made for admission.
