The Children's House Upper School is Independent Primary school in Islington for kids aged 2 to 7 (Gender - Mixed )
Welcome to The Children’s House School. This website will give you an insight into our school and will answer some of your questions, but you are warmly invited to contact us for a tour, to see first-hand what we do to make The Children’s House such a special place. The school is full of happy, confident, enquiring individuals who love to learn. We aim to inspire children to become independent thinkers, good communicators and to build positive relationships. They make learning practical, inspiring, relevant and challenging, allowing every child to reach their academic potential. The curriculum is broad and we provide enrichment in many forms, from a wide array of outings, to a strong emphasis on music, art and dance.
Nursery School
Most children begin their journey through The Children’s House at the Nursery School. They can join from the age of two and a half years and in the first term, spend mornings-only at school. From the second term onwards, parents can opt to send their child to Nursery School for a full school day.At the beginning of the year in which they turn four, children join a full-day pre-reception class. All Nursery School children are placed in small classes led by a qualified teacher and a teaching assistant. Because we staff the school with such high adult/child ratios, we can observe and interact with children constantly. We know the children well and can offer individualised learning all the way through the school.
Pre-Prep
They are committed to providing children with an exciting, hands-on experience which allows us to deliver the best education to all children. They believe children achieve a greater depth of knowledge when completely immersed in our theme-based topics. The shape of the day is similar throughout the Upper School, with the morning divided into two main teaching sessions for maths and literacy. Afternoons are devoted to topic work, which encompasses all curriculum areas. We use topic/theme-based teaching to enable children to make cross-curricular links. All teaching and learning begins with practical work and creative thinking is encouraged.
Outdoor Learning
Although our school is in the midst of an urban environment, we ensure that children experience the natural world at every opportunity, wherever it can be found. An understanding of and sympathy with plant and animal life, as well as an understanding of the cycle of the seasons, is a vital part of children’s learning.
Theme based learning
A thematic curriculum delivers teaching and learning through exciting and engaging units of work, which connect and integrate traditional subject areas giving children context in their learning, as opposed to fragmented standalone subjects.Themes act as umbrellas, under which all major subjects are covered for each year group, connected by the theme. It is an effective and inspiring way to learn, enabling children to link concepts between subjects and understands the world around them.
Clubs
After-school clubs change on a termly basis so that children have a range of activities to sample. They include: pottery, Djembe drumming, yoga, sewing, board games, cookery, ball skills, Science, Capoeira, art, Zumba and Fencing.
Selection Criteria: Selective
The school is non-selective and children are offered places on a first come, first served basis, so please register early. There is a single registration for both the Nursery and Upper School.
