Rosemary Works School is an independent co-educational primary school, with a pre-school nursery class, taking children from the age of 3 to 11 years old. Open from 8am to 6pm 49 weeks per year, our term-time education is supplemented with excellent Out of School clubs and a holiday Play Scheme. We are a private, fee-paying school – sometimes referred to as a preparatory, or prep school. They provide a broad indoor and outdoor curriculum, designed to inspire our pupils with a life-long love of learning, and to provide them with the skills that will enable them to embrace confidently the opportunities and challenges that life will bring to them. Our curriculum is innovative and exciting, and our skilled teachers are dedicated to finding the ‘superpower’ inside every one of our pupils.
Pre-school Nursery Class
Nursery Class takes children from age three. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme, and our emphasis is on learning through play. Each child is assigned a Key Carer who is responsible for ensuring that all of their needs are met, and is the main point of contact with their key child’s parents. This provides consistency and security for the children. The children have access to a wide range of resources and equipment, both indoors and outdoors. Nursery Class have constant access to our Early Years playground which is designed specifically for the younger children, with fixed climbing equipment to support physical development, and also an array of play equipment such as bikes, toys, books, arts and crafts and play equipment. We have a garden and mud kitchen with a good supply of waterproofs and wellies, so that Nursery Class can have messy outdoor fun all year round.
Key Stage 1
In Years 1 and 2, the children are fully engaged with the primary curriculum. The Key Stage One Curriculum is topic-based, interesting and stimulating. A firm emphasis remains on teaching and learning the core subjects, so the pupils have daily English and mathematics lessons. The topic-based approach provides cross-curricular opportunities for learning which are created through carefully chosen topics, that change termly. This approach allows the children to learn the foundation subjects, such as history and geography, within the context of their termly theme. We base our learning on the National Curriculum but we further enhance the curriculum to provide greater depth in key areas of learning.
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 defines the programme of education for the children from the time they leave infant school at seven years old until they join secondary school at 11. Most of the children move up from Rosemary Works Key Stage One, and some join us at 7+ from other schools. Our loving, nurturing ethos continues from the Early Years into Key Stage 2.As our children approach the Upper School, they will have a real sense of confidence and self-worth. They begin to feel that they can take on the world with a can-do approach and a will-do attitude. Lessons are skills-based in the morning and more creative in the afternoon. They continue to deliver our topic-based curriculum in Key Stage Two, and this is augmented with our forward-thinking Global Studies and Enterprise curricula, both designed to develop our pupils’ awareness of the modern world in context, and to develop key skills that will equip them to embrace the opportunities and challenges that life will hold for them.
Preparation for secondary school
At Rosemary Works School, they retain a broad and balanced curriculum across our Year 5 and Year 6 provision rather than thrusting our pupils into a hothouse dedicated to preparing for selective examinations; instead we have a programme in which we work hand in hand with teachers and parents to ensure that each child is well prepared for secondary school entrance. We draw on our knowledge of the many and varied types of secondary schools in both the state and independent sector, to ensure that we find the right fit for your child when they embark on the next stage of their education.
Forest School
They believe that children benefit from spending time outdoors in the natural environment. The children attend weekly Forest School sessions in local nature spots, to develop their understanding of the natural world, and to build practical skills. Forest School offers a multitude of cross-curricular learning opportunities, but it also provides experiences that nurture self-confidence, independence and resilience. There are a wealth of physical, social and emotional benefits from developing a connection with nature.
Enterprise
The Enterprise Curriculum is a bespoke programme of learning which supports the Maths curriculum, designed to extend our pupils understanding of number into real life situations.Enterprise covers subjects such as goods and services, franchises, and supply and demand. Pupils work on class projects such as starting up a small ‘business’ that will require them to understand concept development, product design, branding, marketing and sales. The classes gain an understanding of turnover, gross and net profit, and how charities generate income.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Rosemary Works School is a non-selective day school for girls and boys aged 3 to 11. The main points of entry are at age three into our pre-school Nursery Class, and at age four, into Reception Class. We also have places available in other year groups from time to time.
