St Laurence School is leading State Secondary school in Bradford-on-Avon. This is a Non-selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Mixed
St Laurence is a thriving and successful comprehensive academy where great and equal value is placed on both academic excellence and developing the whole person. They work hard to create opportunities for every student to achieve to their full potential and have the best possible preparation for adult life. In the words of our mission statement: we care, we inspire, we succeed. As one visitor commented, “a school with head and heart working together”.They benefit from a dual foundation status. One of these is the Diocese of Salisbury, meaning that we are a Church of England school. While we are fully inclusive, welcoming students of all faiths and none, we believe that our Christian foundation provides a context within which to foster a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on our beliefs. We are proud to have the Lord Fitzmaurice Educational Trust as the other part of our foundation
Key Stage 3
The first three years at St Laurence are important ones as it is here that students will build and develop their knowledge and understanding in a wide range of subjects, some of which will be very familiar to them from Key Stage 2 and also some which they will experiencing for the first time. Our curriculum is broad and balanced; we have retained a 3-year Key Stage 3 in all our subjects where we follow the programmes of study outlined in the National Curriculum in order to build a solid platform of transferrable independent learning skills and good progress prior to GCSE courses
Key Stage 4
Making decisions at the age of 14 can seem daunting, but students are well supported in this process. In February, we arrange workshops and discussion groups for all Year 9 students during the school day. This then allows them to gain a better understanding of what is on offer at Key Stage 4 (KS4).
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
The Special Educational Needs team comprises experienced staff who work closely together, offering a wide range of provision across all year groups in the school. This includes in-class support from experienced Teaching Assistants, withdrawal programmes to boost social skills, emotional well-being and self-esteem, literacy, numeracy and core intervention programmes, as well as some off-site provision. Students with particular needs can have access to Study Support, the Quiet Zone, the Cosy Room or the Learning Zone, where they can benefit from a more personalised curriculum, or just enjoy social time with their peers in a nurturing environment.
