St Joseph's in the Park

Description

St Joseph's in the Park is Independent Primary school in Hertfordshire for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

St Joseph’s is a supportive, family community which fosters a strong sense of belonging. Being a child here at St Joseph’s is a unique experience; everyone is treated as an individual in a child-centred approach to education. We pride ourselves on being an all-round school where the whole child is educated. We aim to bring education to life. We believe that learning should be fostered in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect, and within an environment where fear of failure is banished and reinforced by these positive experiences. The children achieve great success when applying for their secondary schools and many are awarded scholarships in all areas of the curriculum. Art, drama, music and sports are nurtured so that every child has the opportunity to shine and develop new talents. The children leave school full of self-confidence, having developed the courage to discover themselves and most importantly, to be the best they can.

Facilities

Kindergarten & Nursery: ages 2-4
The woodland and fields in our extensive grounds give your child access to regular opportunities for outdoor activities whatever the weather! They may be watching from within the bird hide, scrambling over logs, gathering sticks and leaves for literacy projects, visiting our hens, going on a bear hunt, looking for Easter eggs or building dens but in every adventure there is the additional opportunity to be brave, independent, excited, persevering, creative or curious. They are an experienced, dedicated team and our one form entry allows staff and children to really get to know each other. We recognise the uniqueness of each child and make sure we encourage a love of learning, self-esteem, enquiring and open minds and support the skills required to communicate, grow in independence and share.

Pre-Prep: ages 4-7
Caring and professional teachers are quick to recognise your child’s strengths and support their learning by building on sound academic foundations so that they can become well-rounded, happy individuals. Children are mainly taught in their own class by their class teacher and dedicated support staff but Music, Science and Languages are taught by our specialist teachers.Naturally, traditional values such as respect for each other and tolerance, kindness and sharing are also highly encouraged. Our curriculum offers opportunities for individual and group work, practical tasks and investigations to ensure that every child is able to achieve learning objectives.

Prep: ages 7-11
Every class has a form teacher who is the focus of the academic and pastoral care for each child. Our teachers meet regularly to discuss the progress and wellbeing of each child in order to offer additional support when necessary. As well as academic subjects, our curriculum offers a vast number of opportunities for children to take part in trips and visits which are designed to add breadth to learning, motivate, kindle their curiosity and help them grow as individuals.

Woodlands
At St Joseph’s In The Park, our Woodlands Centre is specifically arranged to respond to the needs of those children who have some difficulty with English or Mathematics or because of a general requirement for support for a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. We acknowledge and respect all individual differences in abilities and offer children opportunities to help them achieve, thrive and develop their inner talents and grow their self-esteem and self-confidence.Children usually join Woodlands from Year 3 onwards and we are able to offer some places in each of our Prep classes. Specialist teachers and learning support assistants provide a favourable ratio of staff to children and enable children to overcome or minimise the impact of their difficulties by supporting them to participate fully in their learning, provide time to work at their own pace and develop and achieve academically.
