Facilities

Pre-Prep
At St. Andrew's they strive to inspire every child to develop into a confident, well educated and good mannered individual with an enthusiasm for learning whilst also maintaining their own very special character. They believe children should find education stimulating and pleasurable enabling them to develop a positive attitude towards learning for the rest of their lives.St. Andrew's Early Years Foundation Stage consists of two Nursery and two Reception classes. Here, they nurture and encourage all our girls and boys to develop a love of school that will form a firm foundation for their future happiness and success. Both Ofsted and the Independent Schools Inspectorate have rated our Early Years as “Outstanding”. A dedicated, highly qualified and caring team of specialist early years teachers, with an in depth knowledge of how young children learn, guide the children’s learning.

Prep
Historically the movement of children into any senior school environment is sometimes perceived as a major leap. At St. Andrew's however, the transition will be made as smooth as possible for you and your child as they fully appreciate the need for close academic and pastoral links between Year 2 and Year 3.Year 3 is very similar to Year 2 in that the children are still very much form room based. The class teacher will still teach their form for the majority of the time. This is especially important in the core subjects of English and Maths and Science. They continue to have an open door policy and, if you have any questions, please speak to your class teacher. The development of the children can then be continued and further enhanced in Year 3 and above. By the end of Year 3 for the very first time, children are set for Maths, English and French and regular half term assessments take place.

Features

Things to note

Drama
The benefits of learning the disciplines of Drama – collaboration, creativity, self-awareness, empathy and, above all, listening – are strongly aligned to the upkeep of positive and happy children.Drama is a curricular subject throughout the school so that, when the imaginative play of the early years begins to transform into a self-awareness of teenage personality, St. Andrew’s pupils have the opportunity and support to develop into mature and thoughtful performers.

Art
The children are encouraged to be spontaneously creative, using a variety of media and techniques in art and craftwork. An awareness of colour, shape, balance, focus and proportion are developed alongside the use of symbols to convey ideas and feelings. The study of a wide range of artists, craftspeople and designers complements this work.

Music
There is a very high standard of music at St. Andrew’s and the facilities reflect the importance the school places on this subject as a valuable part of the curriculum. There are six music rooms, two of which are general teaching rooms with keyboards, instruments, manuscript boards and computers. The remaining four rooms are used for instrumental lessons given by the peripatetic teachers. They regularly offer tuition in piano, violin, cello, flute, oboe, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, cornet, trombone, guitar and singing.

After School Club
The After School Club, which is available to the Pre-Prep (Nursery to Year 2), Year 3 and Year 4, operates between 4:15pm and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday in term-time. Children are provided with a light tea and are then given time for free play either in the hall or, during the warmer months, outside on the playing fields. It was set up primarily for working parents and those picking up other older children later in the school day.
