Pre-Prep - Aged 2 to 7
Starting school is a very important milestone in the life of your child and, indeed, the whole family. This first step on the journey of formal learning also represents the point where you begin to share the responsibility for your child’s development and wellbeing. It is a memorable and exciting time for you and your child.Welcoming new children to our vibrant and dynamic family is also a very exciting moment for our teaching staff. They collectively embrace the trust placed in them by parents to help them to nurture happy, confident, achieving children, so vital in these formative years.
Prep Children 7 to 13 years old
At Hoe Bridge Prep School, they ask nothing more of your child than to do their best in every pursuit. This is echoed in the school motto: Semper Optimum Meum (Always My Best).Children leave Hoe Bridge Prep happy, confident and having achieving their best, frequently beyond their own and their parents’ expectations. Whichever path they take as they progress through formal education and life beyond, they will always remember and appreciate the excellent teaching, care and richness of experiences here. Many families join us from the Pre-Prep department, so are already familiar with the many benefits of a Hoe Bridge education and the unique ethos. These children, of course, can maintain the friendships they have made in their younger years, but also make new friends as others join us from different schools, their parents keen for their children to gain the best preparation for the senior school of their choice, and beyond.
Senior School - Year 9 to 11
The main things they believe that most parents want from a senior school are the ability to challenge their child to do and be the best they can, prepare them well for GCSEs and education beyond, support their development into responsible citizens and ensure their time at school is happy and fulfilling. At Hoe Bridge School Seniors, we share the same goals for your child. The three elements in the core school ethos – Happiness, Confidence and Achievement – have served the and the families who have entrusted their children to the care for over 35 years, educating children from Nursery to Year 8. These core values have allowed happy and successful children to gain their first choice of senior school and exceptional Common Entrance results. The same ethos and high academic standard will continue through to Senior School in ample measure, experienced every day by students who join us at Senior School as well as those who have been with us previously through our Prep School.
Sports
Because of the importance we place on sport at Hoe Bridge, it represents a substantial part of school life and the weekly timetable. Pre-Prep children have PE/Games twice a week plus swimming during warmer months increasing to four times a week in Prep, plus inter-school matches. Sport is taken by a team of specialist PE teachers throughout the school.Apart from promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and a lifetime of fitness, sport helps children to understand how their bodies work. It complements intellectual and social development and supports many life skills including confidence, self-discipline, decision-making, respect and teamwork. It relieves the pressure of the classroom, uses excess energy, helps to activate young brains and boosts energy and enthusiasm for academic studies and other activities. Most of all, it is and should be enjoyable.
Music
Resonating throughout the school, music is an essential part of the curriculum and school life, being taught by specialist music teachers as soon as children join us in Nursery. It gives every child the opportunity for expression, creativity, performance, appreciation and enjoyment. Many musical talents are discovered at an early age and they consider it a privilege to be able to nurture them.In Pre-Prep violin is introduced as an additional option from Reception, choir in Year 1 and 2 and group ukulele and recorder lessons in Year 2. This is the start of musical opportunities as they develop further through our instrumental programme during Year 3 when children try a range of different instruments as part of their weekly music lesson. All pupils are encouraged to take up a musical instrument and therefore this is an ideal opportunity for pupils and parents to choose the correct instrument.
Drama
Always popular and highly enjoyable, drama provides children with a wonderful opportunity to express and project themselves, building self confidence, teamwork and responsibility. Opportunities are extensive through school performances and after school activities including LAMDA (drama), Stage Coach Performing Arts and musical theatre.Perhaps the highlight of the year is the summer production, involving up to 100 children from Year 5 to 8 and many staff. The children take on performing and off-stage roles, with everybody playing a vital part. An ambitious task, the production never fails to leave families spellbound. Past productions include Pirates of Penzance, Godspell, Oliver, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone, Les Miserables, Grease and HMS Pinafore.
Art
A walk around Hoe Bridge will show that art is an important subject in the curriculum, with work from the talented young artists displayed in seemingly every spare space. The Early Years children are often up to their elbows in paint, playdoh, clay, water, glitter and glue, showcasing endless uses for yoghurt pots and the insides of kitchen rolls! As the children progress up through the school the use of different media becomes more structured and understanding of perspective, the effects of shading and colour mixing is developed through experimentation.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Hoe Bridge has also recently announced that they will be opening Woking's first independent senior school.
