Sheridan School is a specialist therapeutic school for boys and girls aged 8-18 years old with complex needs which include social, emotional and mental health difficulties (also known as SEMH). Some of the young people in our care have additional needs such as autism, post-traumatic stress disorder or attachment disorder.The school can cater for up to 70 pupils from primary through to secondary level. They are a Norfolk-based school, welcoming young people from across the county. They aim to deliver the highest level of education tailored to individual needs in a safe, positive and structured environment where every student is encouraged to achieve the best possible academic, social and vocational outcomes.Located in the small village of Northwold, Sheridan School enjoys a tranquil setting in the Norfolk countryside however it is still within easy reach of the facilities and amenities of Thetford, Norwich and King’s Lynn.
Key Stage 2
They have a primary approach to our KS2 leaning. There are specialist teachers who work with the students, focusing on different subject areas. The emphasis is on engagement and creativity.
Key Stage 3
Learning takes account of the particular barriers and vulnerabilities of each learner. The balance between cross-curricular and subject-specific themes will depend on the engagement and interest of the learner. Where appropriate, early entry into accredited programmes such as Entry Level will be arranged in order to re-engage and motivate.
Key Stage 4
Students have the opportunity to follow a more flexible curriculum. Academic qualifications are offered via Entry Level and GCSE examinations in a range of subjects. Vocational qualifications are also made available.
Key Stage 5
Students have the opportunity to build on their GCSE results and/or take part in NCFE qualifications to help them further their future.
Therapy services
Sheridan School has a multidisciplinary team of consultants who provide a range of therapeutic services to the young people. The team comprises: A music therapist, A speech and language therapist (SALT), A psychotherapeutic counsellor, A counselling psychologist. They believe the therapists are integral to the school: They work closely alongside our teaching staff to implement support strategies that help the pupils achieve their full potential and get them in the right place so that they are ready to learn. There is at least one member of the therapy team on site every day except Fridays.
Life skills
Helping young people to build life skills is central to the very ethos of Sheridan School. We believe that it is vital to get this right in order to give students the best chance of learning effectively. Each and every moment at the school is designed to help our young people work towards developing new life skills and building on their existing ones.We are committed to ensuring that our young people leave us not only having achieved their academic potential, but having also with the life skills they need to go on to become successful adults that can make a contribution to society. Sheridan School has been specifically designed with the needs of its young people in mind with bright, spacious and modern classrooms and a wealth of open space thanks to its quiet rural setting. The school is divided into four blocks, each for a specific purpose, which helps pupils to easily find their way around the school and minimises transitions during the school day. There are designated blocks for:Specialist autism facilities, Primary facilities, Secondary facilities, Central school facilities (including assembly hall and dining room)

The majority of our pupils have a Statement of Special Educational Need / EHCP of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties including autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHA).
