Park House

Description

Park House is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 6 to 19 (Gender - 6 to 19 )

They aim to help young people who have special educational needs related to their social interaction and communication differences (typically found in autistic children) and who may, additionally, have specific learning difficulties, achieve amazing things. The workrooms and classrooms occupy a former family home, a lodge and a renovated chapel, in a peaceful village East of Peterborough. Park House School is a warm and nurturing setting where children are given time and space in which to learn. They are a small and therapeutic school community focusing on offering rewarding experiences and functional life skills. Taking into account their chronological, developmental and emotional age PHS provides it’s pupils with a broad, balanced and individualised curriculum, and appropriate knowledge, skills and strategies to ensure a successful and effective transition into adulthood.PHS also aims, where appropriate, possible and practical, to reintegrate children into a main-stream educational setting.

Facilities

Park House School has a collection of welcoming classrooms, within a Victorian house, an old chapel, and the grounds. The first student joined the school in 2005. Since then we’ve expanded and are helping more autistic young learners than they dreamed possible. Students are offered a home ‘base’ room, in which to study or relax. As pupils develop their strategies to cope with others their home base may become a shared space for one, or more, student(s). They love to help design, layout and decorate their personal base. They have two well-equipped kitchens where students learn essential living skills including food preparation and cooking, or washing and drying clothes.

Features

Things to note

Younger students enjoy our large activity room, which has soft play equipment. One corner of the room can be used as a quiet space where your child can relax under adult supervision. Outside, they have a play area, which is specially designed to promote development of children’s gross motor and play skills. They have recently acquired the ‘Old Chapel’ in Thorney, where students learn in a shared space, based on their individual needs.
