Northbourne Park School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 2 to 13 (Gender - 2 to 13 )
The children are very much at the centre of all they do here, and the Northbourne Park experience is a team effort, with the staff, children, parents and governors all working together to provide a stimulating education which is as broad as it is deep and wide. The educational philosophy is simple and successful; if your child is happy, supported and cared for in their educational lives, they will want to work hard and to get involved in a wide range of stimulating extra-curricular activities and contribute more and more to the school community.Outstanding pastoral care ensures that they focus on the individual needs of every child, encouraging them and inspiring them to succeed across a wide range of learning experiences whether in the classroom, in sport, music, drama and leadership or in the wide range of other activities on offer to them at the school.
Nursery (2 - 4 years)
The Nursery provides a happy, safe and stimulating environment, where the children thrive and learn, supported by adults who understand and care for them. The daily routine provides a balance between child-initiated and adult-directed activities. Through observation and interaction with each child and talking to the parents, they build a picture of the child’s abilities and interests, allowing them to plan for the next steps in their learning.
Reception Class (4 - 5 years)
In the Reception Class we continue the Early Years Foundation Stage covering seven areas of learning: Communication and Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design. They achieve this through broad-based topics such as Pirates, Fairytales, Dinosaurs, Space, Places and Transport. At the beginning of each half term, the class creates, with the teacher, a plan of work based on the topic and their interests. We believe it is important to give the children a voice in their learning.
Year One (5 - 6 years)
Children practice reading every day in a variety of ways. They will read aloud to an adult daily, take part in a Guided Reading group session with an adult, or take part in a 1-1 session with the teacher to develop specific reading skills. The children continue to use the Letters and Sounds scheme of phonics to develop their reading and spelling skills. Weekly spelling tests are held after half term
Year Two (6 - 7 years)
Children read daily, usually individually, or occasionally in groups. Class Two children continue to use the Letters and Sounds spelling scheme. We have a wide range of reading books to cater for every child’s needs and preferences. Children are taught to use cursive handwriting.
Years 3 to 8 (ages 7 - 13)
The Prep School provides a high-energy, stimulating educational experience for all of the boys and girls as they make their way to either Kent Grammar Schools at 11+ or to Public Schools at 13+.The children are very much at the centre of all they do here, and the Northbourne Park experience is a team effort, with the staff, children, parents and governors all working together to provide a stimulating education which is as broad as it is deep and wide. The educational philosophy is simple and successful; if your child is happy, supported and cared for in their educational lives, they will want to work hard and to get involved in a wide range of stimulating extra-curricular activities and contribute more and more to the school community.
