Description

Elm Green School is Independent Private School for Girls and Boys for age 5 to 11.

Elm Green School was founded in 1944 by Mary Tubbs who started the school with just 5 children, including her son. As the school developed various sites were used including a house at Elm Green in Danbury, from which the school takes its name. In 1952 the school moved permanently to its present location where some of the old farm buildings including an historic, thatched tithe barn are still in use. The school continued to flourish under the leadership of Elisabeth Mimpriss, the daughter of Mary Tubbs.

They take great pleasure in seeing our students develop their own unique personalities and talents, watching them grow and flourish in a setting that aims to keep them safe, independent, stimulated and challenged by the experiences available. We take our responsibility to provide an ‘education for life’ seriously and aim to prepare all of our students to meet their future with confidence.

Facilities

The curriculum
The school has a strong academic tradition and an excellent record of success in external examinations including the Essex 11plus and independent school entrance examinations. Students also complete the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and 2 assessments. Considerable attention is given to ensuring that a secure foundation is laid for future learning. The development of reading and literacy is a key to all learning and given a high priority, particularly in the early years, when an individual reading programme is monitored on a daily basis. Parental involvement is encouraged at all stages.

Admission Details

Following an initial enquiry, a prospectus, including a registration form, is sent out (or can be downloaded) and enquirers are encouraged to contact the School Office to make an appointment to view the school.

On receipt of the completed registration form and fee, an acknowledgement is sent out with confirmation of firm/waiting list status, in accordance with the criteria set out in our Admissions Policy.

Offers of places for pre-school children who are on the firm place lists are made approximately 18 months prior to their year of entry, moving down onto the waiting list for that year as appropriate.  At this stage, parents are required to complete an acceptance form, accept the School’s terms and conditions and pay a deposit of £500 which is refundable through the last fee bill when the child leaves the school.

Invitations to the School’s Open Day are sent out each year and termly updates are sent out in the year prior to children starting in Kindergarten. Children and their parents are also invited to attend an Induction morning in the summer term prior to starting school.

Places for older children are offered from the waiting list when a place becomes available with the child being invited for a ‘taster’ session at school prior to the offer documentation being sent out.
