Dover College is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 18 (Gender - 3 to 18 )
Small is beautiful! The values of the family run through Dover College. The class sizes allow them to nurture confidence, encourage inquisitiveness and celebrate individual success. They are academically ambitious. They take the time to really get to know each child so that the right balance of challenge and support is in place based on their needs. This is a school which recognises that success is as unique as the individual and celebrates achievement where it represents the personal best for the child. You can read more here about how that approach is paying off in our public examination results. They like to think differently. The distinctive curriculum, connecting Early Years right through to Sixth Form, focusses not only on achieving excellent results but also developing inquisitive and creative minds ready for the challenges ahead. They are a member of the Round Square organisation, a group of 150 worldwide schools, and share their commitment to an all-round education. They prize their core values of internationalism, democracy, care for the environment, adventure, leadership and service. They encourage all pupils to participate in sport, music and drama, recognising the way these areas promote leadership, teamwork and self-belief.
Nursery & Prep
Welcome to our Prep School, where they believe in a creative and exciting curriculum, which fills our children with awe, wonder and excitement. The environment is one where children can learn, grow and play. They have worked here for thirteen years and feel privileged to be surrounded by spacious and beautiful grounds and an experienced, dedicated and friendly staff team.We pride ourselves on providing a happy and safe environment where children develop confidence and thrive academically. They take great pride in supporting each child, encouraging them to reach their full potential in all subjects and every aspect of school life. The life and learning skills, which are interwoven throughout our connected curriculum, encourage children the skills needed to make the transition into the senior school and beyond
Senior & Sixth
Taking time to reflect upon your academic interests and abilities, and considering which subjects to study at GCSE, is an important part in your development as a person. The decisions you make now will help influence your future, so think carefully before choosing your options and think also about building upon success and what you find enjoyable and worthwhile. In order to ensure that every Dover College pupil is equipped with a good balance of skills and knowledge, certain subjects are compulsory at GCSE level. These subjects constitute what is known as the ‘core curriculum’, and include subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. In addition, pupils choose a number of optional subjects. The decision regarding which of these optional subjects should be studied is an important one. They hope that this booklet will provide you with some important information concerning the subjects that are available and will, in turn, help you to make a sensible and informed choice.
Learning Support
They believe all children should be responsibly included in the social and curricular life of the school in order to gain the highest levels of achievement and enjoyment. We see our school as a community where we involve pupils themselves, parents and teachers in developing a partnership of support. The Learning Support Department is a dedicated centre where pupils throughout the College can receive the support they require, gain confidence in their abilities and develop strategies to enable them to become independent learners. The staff in the Learning Support Department work in close cooperation with subject teachers and parents and all College staff are encouraged to recognise their responsibility for the education of pupils with specific difficulties.
Sport
The aim is to give every pupil at Dover College the best sporting opportunity, whilst endeavoring to help each individual fulfil their potential. In doing so we hope to promote a positive, lifelong approach to sport and fitness but also develop/promote excellence for those who choose to pursue an activity to a higher level. They are able to achieve this by providing an extensive provision of activities with the major sports being rugby, football and cricket for boys, hockey, and netball for girls. Outside of the major games options we offer golf, horse riding, rounders, sailing, badminton, gym (Only upper and lower sixth) and much more.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Here at Dover College they have high standards and expectations, but will select pupils on potential as much as on present ability. They do not believe in pre-testing, and they do not believe in the 11+ system for entry to the senior school, which can label children early in their academic careers causing more harm than good. You would imagine such a system would affect results, but you would be wrong. The A level, GCSE and BTEC grades are commensurate with competitor independent schools across the South East.

In addition to scholarships, it has long been the policy of Dover College to support senior school pupils who are unable to pay full fees. The Governors of the College are committed to broadening access by offering means-tested bursaries to beneficiaries who would otherwise not be able to attend the College. Awards are protected from inflation by being expressed as a percentage of the annual fees.
