  • While Akeley Wood Junior and Senior School are open for 37 weeks of the year, as parents will be aware, that still leaves plenty of time during the school holidays when energetic children need to be kept busy and entertained! Luckily, long-serving holiday club staff from SuperCamps are here to help. With over 20 years’ experience, they are brimming with fun and imaginative ideas and activities, and welcome children from 4 to 14 years old.

Admission Details

Nursery Admissions: Applications to Akeley Wood Nursery are welcomed from parents looking for nursery provision from the child’s first birthday until they are due to start school (the September following a child’s fourth birthday). Applications can be made at any age once the child’s birth has been registered. The first formal stage is to register your son or daughter with, detailing the sessions that you would ideally require. For those children already attending a childcare setting, they will ask their current provider for a reference and may invite your child, accompanied by a family member, to meet the Nursery Manager. Taking these elements into consideration and on the basis of being able to offer the sessions to meet your childcare need, they would ideally make an offer of a place. However, there will be occasions when the offer of a place cannot be made, and they would explain any such decision to parents at an early stage. They accept children whose individual needs they feel they will be able to cater for and will thrive in the nurturing preschool environment they offer. Nursery places are in exceptionally strong demand for all ages so they encourage parents to register early. Please contact Admissions Team online or by email at [email protected] to enquire about a place and to arrange a personal tour of the nursery and school. They are registered to receive Nursery Grant Funding for all children aged three to four years. 

Junior School Admissions: Applications to Akeley Wood Junior School are welcomed from parents looking for primary school-aged education. Applications can be made at any age for the September following a child’s fourth birthday. The first formal stage is to register your son or daughter and provide their most recent school report. They will then ask their current school for a reference and may invite your child to meet the Head of School. On the basis of this they would ideally make an offer of a place. However, there will be occasions when the offer of a place cannot be made, and they would explain any such decision to parents at an early stage. They accept students of at least average academic ability who they believe will thrive happily in environment and will be benefit from the rich and varied education they offer. As part of the admissions process, they welcome children to experience a taster session/day with so they can begin to get to know the school, the staff and pupils. Junior School places are in strong demand so they encourage parents to register early. Entry is deemed automatic for all those children already attending the Akeley Wood Nursery, provided that the School judges it can successfully meet the child’s educational needs and that the child will be able to manage and enjoy the expectations of day-to-day school life.

Senior School Admissions: Admissions to Akeley Wood Senior School are welcomed from parents looking for senior school following prep school or from parents whose children have been in state primary schools. The first formal stage is to register your son or daughter and provide a school report. They will then invite them for interview and ask their current school for a reference. On the basis of these elements they would ideally make an offer of a place. However, there will be occasions when the offer of a place cannot be made, and they would explain any such decision to parents at an early stage. They are currently offering Taster Days for children looking to join Year 7 and would love to hear from you if you’d look your child to take part. Sixth Form Admissions: Admissions to Akeley Wood Sixth Form are welcomed from parents looking for Sixth Form following GCSE study. The first formal stage is to register your son or daughter and provide a school report. They will then invite them for interview and ask their current school for a reference and predicted GCSE grades. On the basis of these three elements they make an offer of a place. In-Year School Admissions: They are happy to accept enquiries regarding in-year admissions to the school in any year group at any time. Scholarships

Types of Scholarships: They offer a number of scholarships for students entering school in September. Scholarships may be awarded for high achieving students who show excellence or outstanding potential in one or more of the following areas:

Applications from students in both the maintained and independent school sectors are welcomed. Applications can be made  in the year prior to the scholarship being awarded.
