Nursery
The Nursery at Aberdour sits within the Pre-Prep department, divided into four rooms with their own outdoor play area yet still connected to the whole of Pre-Prep. Honey Bees (Age 2), Bumble Bees (Rising 3 year olds) and two pre-school rooms, Busy Bees (Rising 4 year olds).Children have an innate ability to want to ask questions, be curious and explore new concepts. The nursery's 'Wonder', 'Inspire', 'Discover' programme develops these natural curiosities. At Aberdour, they are fortunate to have the wonderful natural environment, including outdoor gardens, fields and the school's woodland. Every week, the children either visit the woods for ‘Woodland Wonder’, take part in 'Inspire', which is linked to expressive arts, or participate in 'Discover'; unearthing new things and exploring self-discovery.
Pre-Prep at Aberdour
Little Learners - Finding the Brilliance! The Little learners at Aberdour are inquisitive, creative, inspiring individuals. They follow an enquiry-based learning approach that values the belief that children are strong, competent and capable, who are full of wonder and curiosity to learn. At the heart of everything we do is the powerful image of the child; teachers are deeply aware of the children’s potential and construct all of their work and environment linked to the children’s experiences. At Aberdour we place great value on children’s ideas and desire to research their theories, helping them to explore the wider environment and creating children who are able to think critically. Children ask questions and generate their own hypothesis, whilst educators offer children, through the process of revisiting, the opportunity to reorganise concepts, ideas, thoughts and theories to construct new meaning.
Middle Year
The Fearless Flyers at Aberdour are equipped with lifelong skills to prepare them for a successful future in our rapidly changing world. They inspire and challenge our pupils to make connections and delve deeper to strengthen the roots of their learning and support them to grow and flourish through rich, personalised and meaningful experiences. The creative curriculum and personalised learning based on the principles of P.A.L, allows the children's interests to develop and be developed. Pupils benefit from a stimulating extended learning area with learning pods and investigation stations to challenge their natural curiosity and inspire awe and wonder. Our highly qualified and nurturing Teachers make learning experiences fun, exciting and engaging. Daily meditation and mindfulness exercises and weekly yoga sessions create a calm and purposeful atmosphere for learning whilst encouraging the children to be aware of their thoughts and feelings.
Senior
The Senior School (Years 4, 5 and 6) continues to build the children's skills and abilities, giving them a truly outstanding education both academically and in terms of their individual self-development. Obviously, there is also a strong (and expert) focus on senior school entrance and 11+ preparation, and our "next schools" record speaks for itself. Every year, 100% of Aberdour pupils are successfully accepted into local, regional and national senior schools at 11+. In 2020/21, of the 38 children who sat entrance exams for independent senior schools, we had a staggering 84 offers from over 30 senior schools including Reigate Grammar, Caterham, Epsom, St Johns and Dunnotar. Our pupils were awarded an outstanding 27 Scholarships between them. In addition, pupils were also successful in gaining entry to local Grammar schools, High schools and Academies.
Music
The music has a major role in the school curriculum through the teaching of musical instruments, choirs and orchestra. The Music Department has several practice rooms as well as a dedicated Music Room for larger classes.The three practice rooms for private lessons.

The school has a heated indoor Swimming Pool. a large Sports Hall catering for indoor football, basketball, tennis, badminton and netball, with cricket nets and gymnastic equipment. a Dance Studio. a large all-weather sports surface - catering for two netball courts, three tennis courts and hockey or football. 12 acres of beautiful parkland with numerous sports fields, 2 all weather cricket wickets, and astro-turf netball and tennis courts.
