Nursery
At Chinthurst Nursery we will nurture and develop your child from the very beginning of their time with us. The warm and caring Nursery team will spend time building strong relationships with them so they feel happy, loved and excited to come to school everyday.Imaginative activities and fun adventures are designed to help build those all important foundations for future learning. Cookery, STEM, Drama, French & PE alongside plenty of fresh air and regular Forest School sessions, further develop thinking skills, problem solving and independent learning. The children learn about being good citizens and the importance of being kind to one another.
Lower School - Reception, Years 1&2
Reception has an energy all of its own and our teachers know that amazing learning happens when your child is engaged and having fun. The concept of consistency might be explored by making jelly (and holding it upside down!) or a subtraction lesson might include smashing dough balls. Most importantly, mistakes are celebrated and confidence is cultivated so your child will achieve great things. They never forget that small steps are very important in your child’s learning journey. By paying attention to their little successes, our teachers are building genuine relationships with your child, helping them to sparkle and shine.
Upper School
Upper School includes all pupils from Years 3 to 6 and is based in the Morris House building. We build upon and develop the work done in Lower School and continue our broad and exciting curriculum to prepare the children for senior school by inspiring them to be confident, independent and creative learners. There is an increase in the number of specialist taught subjects which include French, Mandarin, Music, Drama, Art, Design and Technology, ICT, PE and Games.Central to the school’s ethos is a bespoke and comprehensive wellbeing programme called Wellbeing at Heart, which has been designed to help your child to understand how their bodies and minds work and give them the skills to navigate life’s inevitable challenges. We will build strong relationships with your child so they know that they are truly valued as individuals. This will give them the confidence to try new things and the resilience to learn from their mistakes. Visitors often comment on the buzz of energy, warmth of atmosphere and sense of fun around the school buildings and grounds. Your child will be happy here.
Drama
Drama is quite simply engrained in every aspect of life at Chinthurst. From weekly Drama lessons which start in Little Chicks to the polished performances in the senior production, your child will develop the sort of confidence that will set them apart from the crowd. They can take individual one to one LAMDA lessons (our children achieve outstanding results in LAMDA exams) or perform in one of the many productions throughout the year. All the world really is a stage at Chinthurst – in preparation for life's 'stage' and all it has to offer.
Art
The well-equipped Art classroom is a wonderful place to visit! Mrs Lyth, our specialist Art teacher, takes a practical approach to Art and the children experience a wide variety of techniques allowing them to explore their creative potential. The walls and ceilings proudly display their fantastic work and visitors often comment on the high standard and diversity of the artwork. Over a hundred children recently produced a stunning installation for an international art competition and were delighted to be prize winners, collecting an award and displaying their creation at the Natural History Museum in London.
Music
Music is an important part of life at Chinthurst. The whole school sings together at assemblies and three choirs regularly rehearse and perform to a high standard at outside events and competitions. Every year group benefits from specialist music teaching within the curriculum, which develops the children’s musical abilities as well as their appreciation and love of music. Musical learning is approached primarily through singing, playing tuned and untuned percussion instruments and the creation of individual compositions. In the Upper School the children have the opportunity to participate in whole class instrument tuition as part of the curriculum and engage in the use of music technology when composing.
Sport
Sport is at the heart of Chinthurst and a very important part of the school week. High quality coaching throughout games afternoons in the Upper School alongside after school sports clubs, ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop key skills and improve their game play. Optional Saturday morning coaching sessions are open to all from Reception to Year 6 and provide an opportunity for the children to further build upon their skills (whilst their parents enjoy bacon sandwiches and coffee!).
