They are a successful academy grammar school with high aspirations for all our students and believe strongly that building students’ learning capacity has the power to transform lives. They have an excellent staff who support the students in all their learning and extra-curricular activities. We are a friendly school and one which provides an encouraging environment in which pupils can pursue a diverse range of activities.
Curriculum
The curriculum at Westcliff High School for Girls has been designed, with the English Baccalaureate at its heart, to set up young scholars for future academic, social and emotional success. The depth of our curriculum is demonstrated in the curriculum planning where subject knowledge is explored in depth rather than at a surface level. It is also evident in our learning journey roadmaps, where staff have carefully considered the cultural capital students can gain both within the classroom and beyond in each curriculum area. Furthermore, the depth of our curriculum is also carefully considered in our literacy strategy, where students are encouraged to read widely beyond the curriculum.
Library
The Library is a purpose-built space, home to over 12,000 resources over two floors, including a bank of computers. It is a calm working room, affording everyone the opportunity of quiet study or reading. They are committed to maintaining an up-to-date and relevant collection in terms of the curriculum, working closely with our departments to ensure we are supporting each key stage appropriately. In terms of our ever-expanding fiction collection, we are continually seeking to improve our stock to reflect everyone in our student population in terms of age and diversity, balancing classic texts with modern fiction.
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form offers a centre of academic excellence, offering a choice of 24 A Levels alongside the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification, helping you develop your knowledge, confidence and skills, in order for you to fulfil your potential and open doors to new opportunities. A sense of community is important to us and the atmosphere in the Sixth Form is warm and supportive. Staff/student relations are excellent; respect and effort on both sides acknowledges the fact that education is a joint venture. During your time in the Sixth Form you will be supported by specialist subject teachers and a dedicated Sixth Form Pastoral Support Team. We have created a structured environment which, by gradually increasing your autonomy, will help you move from the discipline of compulsory schooling to the freedom of adult independence.
