Welcome to Rainham Mark Grammar School and our family of schools. At RMGS we recognise the importance of a holistic approach to the learning, spiritual and moral development of young people. They are extremely proud of our students' academic achievements, but we also pride ourselves in balancing academic success with personal success and ensuring students have the necessary skills, care and guidance to fulfil their academic ability and exceed personal ambitions. At RMGS we believe that every student is entitled to a school career in which they are happy, encouraged and supported to become confident, life-long learners who are encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions and personal development both in school and in life beyond.
Curriculum
The curriculum is ambitious for all students; coherently planned and sequenced; successfully adapted, designed and developed for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities; broad and balanced for all students. The curriculum is taught in 6 lessons per day of 50 minutes each that follow a two-week timetable.
Sixth Form
RMGS has a large and vibrant 6th Form with over 350 students. The majority of Year 11 students elect to stay on in our 6th Form and each year approximately 30 new students join the Sixth Form. Examination success is important to RMGS, but students and staff know that the development of positive character traits are equally as important. At the heart of the RMGS 6th Form are four core pillars: empathy; appreciation; intellectual curiosity; academic ambition.
Sports and Games
Team sports are played at various levels against other schools or clubs: football, netball, cricket, badminton, athletics, tennis, table tennis and golf. Inter-form matches, gym and dance evenings and our annual Sports Day all contribute to the sporting life of the school.
Music
Music is an important part of life at RMGS and sees students participate in a wide variety of activities. Students' learning is well supported in the Music block, which, in addition to two classrooms, features four practice rooms, a recording studio and a recital hall. One of the classrooms also functions as a music specialist ICT suite. Extra-Curricular opportunities exist for students to perform in ‘Cello Choir, Vocal Chords (keyboard and vocals), Junior Wind Band, Brass Group, Big Band, Guitar Club, Ukulele Club, Jam Club, String Group, and Music Technology Club. These groups perform regularly in school concerts and in the wider community. Every year all proceeds from the Christmas Concerts go to charity.
Drama
The well-equipped Drama Studio provides excellent facilities for drama workshops; larger productions take place in the spacious Hall.
