Walthamstow Academy is one of a family of academies sponsored by United Learning. It is the largest single sponsor of academies in the UK and has a proven track record in education. United Learning's aim, which they share, is to bring out 'the best in everyone' - students, staff and the wider academy community. At Walthamstow Academy, they offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which our students feel happy, safe and supported to be able to achieve their best. Since they opened in September 2006, they have begun to develop a school which its students and the people of Walthamstow can be proud to call their own.

Curriculum
Walthamstow Academy has a powerful, intellectual and rigorous curriculum. The curriculum is designed to provide all our students with the core knowledge thatwill become the foundation of their success in life. They aim to maximise their cognitive development, to develop the whole person and the talents of the individual so that Walthamstow Academy students become well-informed, active and economically self-sufficient citizens. At the end of Year 9, students make their Key Stage 4 qualification choices, meaning that from Year 10 they are studying subjects they are particularly passionate and excited about. In Year 7 to Year 9 students study English, Maths, Science, Computing, French or Spanish, Music, Art, Drama, RE, Geography, History, Design Technology and PE. They study PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) during form time.

Features

Things to note

SEND
Walthamstow Academy is committed to the individual needs of all young people. They respect diversity and aim to provide an educational environment in which all young people can thrive. They promote inclusion so that all students can realise their potential in terms of academic and personal achievement through access to the curriculum and extracurricular activities and by providing support, which is tailored to individual needs. They offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all students. The achievements, attitudes and well-being of all our students matter. This helps to ensure that this school promotes the individuality of all our students irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background and that they have a common curriculum experience. The Inclusion team is led by Lisa Hostick (SENCo). The governor with particular responsibility for Inclusion is Leon Jacobs (Inclusion).  They are extremely proud of being awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) for outstanding inclusive practice - this award follows a rigorous inspection process, which took an in-depth look at the inclusion work here at the academy.

Extra Curricular
The aim at Walthamstow Academy is that every student is able to access extra-curricular activities that interest them. The extra-curricular activities are designed to allow the students to explore various activities and develop new or existing skills and interests.
