Our children progress to their next schools as confident, successful and independent individuals
Early Years
Early Years at Upton covers Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Transition. We call it “Little Upton” as it is the time where boys and girls aged 2-5 years start the Upton journey. They benefit from being part of the whole school and feel part of a community. Pre-Nursey and Nursery remain open 48 weeks delivering excellent education and care. Transition children can join the school holiday club.Experienced and highly qualified teachers and practitioners plan activities both inside and outside the class to support the children’s own initiatives, well-being and learning. The children are offered many opportunities to engage in new activities that enable them to develop their love of learning. Set in a fun, happy, busy and caring environment, they thrive and develop their confidence. Independence is encouraged and children learn through self-discovery, following their own interests and building on what they already know and enjoy..
Pre-Prep
After Little Upton, the journey brings the children to Pre-Prep, two very important formative years where boys and girls aged 5 to 7 years become big thinkers. Life in Pre-Prep is stimulating and challenging and children are encouraged to approach new tasks with independence and confidence. They follow a more structured learning framework and are introduced to the key sports. Bigger desks, higher chairs and thinner pencils set the scene for the continued academic journey. The children will spend most of their time with their form teacher developing their confidence in maths and English and wondering about the world around them in Topic and Science. They work in small groups and are constantly encouraged to think outside the box and complete various challenges with lots of hands-on activities. LAMDA exams start in Form 1 as part of our curriculum and the school is quite unique in offering this to all children
Prep
In Prep, the curriculum offers a broad, well balanced and forward-thinking educational experience. We ensure that every child gets the opportunity to excel and foster a genuine passion for learning. Core subjects like English and maths are timetabled early in the day and science is taught in a purpose-built laboratory, ideal for carrying out experiments and investigations. They prepare each pupil for the senior school of their choice and work together with families to achieve the best. All subjects are delivered by subject specialists and teachers bring their lessons alive using state of the art technology. The curriculum is designed to challenge, support and ignite a curiosity for learning. Creativity is celebrated at Upton and is developed through art, design, drama, music and music technology. All children are involved in the annual musical theatre school production at the end of the summer term and also take the LAMDA exam. Individual music lessons with visiting instrumental and singing teachers are available and the children enjoy participating in choirs, ensembles, musical soirees and many out of school events. A wide range of modern foreign languages: French, Mandarin and Spanish as well as classical Latin are taught in lessons and extended in clubs.
Extra Curricular
They aim to develop the skills of our pupils in a variety of areas, ranging from sport to choir and ballet to computing. Individual music tuition is also available in singing, piano, violin, guitar, cello, clarinet, cornet, trombone, flute and recorder. These activities take place either during the school day or after school. Pupils staying for after-school clubs are provided with a drink and snack before the activity starts.
Sport Is Key
Sport plays an important part in the Prep Department and they value the importance of keeping pupils fit and healthy. Every day our children have the opportunity to take part in a PE activity led by specialist teachers or coaches and one afternoon they have games at the York Club (Windsor Great Park) for various sporting events and fixtures against other schools. Swimming is also very important. Each class swims once a week and the school have a swim squad that trains one afternoon per week.
