Thomas Tallis School is a large mixed comprehensive school for pupils aged 11–19, located in Kidbrooke in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London, England. It opened in 1971, and was named after the composer Thomas Tallis, who lived in Greenwich. The school was originally built in 1971 on land used for training facilities in a former RAF storage, maintenance and training facility, RAF Kidbrooke. A blue plaque recognising the school's RAF connections, in particular to the RAF Linguists' Association, was unveiled in 2008 and re-dedicated in July 2014. In 1998, the school was awarded 'Specialist Arts College' status and was successfully re-designated twice. In 2005 it was awarded Leading Edge status. The school was part of the Creative Partnerships network of schools from its inception in 2002, through to 2011 (in May 2008, the school was one of only 30 schools in England to achieve the status of School of Creativity).
Key Stage 3
The 2 year Key Stage 3 (KS3) Curriculum comprises the core subjects of English, Maths and Science and the following foundation subjects: Humanities (History and Geography), Languages, Design Technology, Computer Science, Art, Music, Drama, PE and PSHCE and aims to give students a flying start to their time at Tallis. It is underpinned by our commitment to excellence through creativity, community, challenge and engagement. Our Tallis Habits of Mind are central to the schemes of work in year 7 and 8. In year 7 students undertake two extended enquiries in each subject area. We aim to help students develop as self-motivated learners with habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Key Stage 4
The curriculum at key stage 4 offers a broad and balanced curriculum with both rigour and choice. All students will be required to follow GCSE courses in English, maths, 2 or 3 sciences, at least one ‘Ebacc’ subject (geography, history, French, Spanish or computer science), then 3 further option subjects. We encourage more able students to do both a humanity and a language, but this is not compulsory. All students continue to do core PE and PSHCE. All KS4 students will continue to be taught RE and computer science across the various subjects in the curriculum, through PSHCE and through ‘drop down days’ across the 3 years.Throughout their subjects across the curriculum, we will encourage students to develop their Tallis habits and character (link). This is because we believe these are an integral part of being a successful and positive member of our community and beyond. At Tallis, we also believe strongly in a co-curriculum whereby students have opportunities and experiences to further their understanding of the world. This means that key stage 4 students will be encouraged to attend numerous trips, events and after school activities.
