The Valley Community Primary School is State Primary School for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The Valley Community Primary School recognises that each child is an individual and that each has the ability to reach their full potential. Therefore, the school in partnership with parents and the local community seeks to fulfil this potential by respecting the needs of individual children, fostering a caring and creative environment and emphasising the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child. As a school, they believe that all aspects of the environment should encompass our ‘AFTER’ values. The core values have been prepared in consultation with children, staff and governors. These values are to demonstrated and embedded by staff as well as learners in all aspects of school life. By holding true to these values, learners are better prepared for their lives ‘after’ school and beyond.
Curriculum
The curriculum sets out exactly what is to be learnt for each child in each year of study. However, there is always a small degree of “curriculum flexibility”. The school is also very responsive to key events; such as times of celebration, times of news influence (Such as Royal events), charity (such as natural disasters) and fund raising (“Red Nose Day”) and times of national or international significance (such as the London Olympics). Every year they also carefully plan exceptional days e.g. Farm day, International Day and Science events, where we have access to guest speakers. This can sometimes mean the curriculum is slightly changed in overall coverage e.g. some lessons may be rescheduled or new content is trialled. An example of this may be: Whilst we are very strict about what pupils learn, they also know that having this small degree of flexibility and creativity, agreed with the senior leadership team, promotes innovation and scope to be truly reflective teachers and personalise learning.
