The Unicorn School is Independent Secondary school in Not recorded for kids aged 6 to 16 (Gender - 6 to 16 )
Welcome to The Unicorn School. They are a specialist, independent day school for children aged 7 to 16 years who have Specific Learning Differences: dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). We offer both primary and secondary education including our GCSE programme. They are a small, nurturing school with 108 pupils. Providing a cherishing environment and specialist teaching, The Unicorn School bridges the gap between our pupils’ current performance and their potential achievement.
Curriculum
At The Unicorn School the pupils are taught the National Curriculum. The specialist teachers adapt the way we deliver the subject material to make the curriculum accessible to pupils with learning differences. They teach the full national curriculum to all pupils in Year 2 to Year 9. This covers all national curriculum subjects including Maths, Literacy, Science, IT, History, Geography, French, Art and Design, PSHE and Citizenship, and many more subjects. In Years 10 and 11 pupils follow our carefully selected GCSE programme, focussing on a small number of key subjects to give our pupils the best opportunity to succeed.
SPORT
Sport is an important part of life at The Unicorn School. Every pupil takes part in our varied sports itinerary which includes football, hockey, tennis, athletics and sailing. Sports sessions run at nearby, Tilsley Park which offers excellent sporting facilities. Pupils in Year 7 and above can choose sailing tuition at Farmoor Reservoir.
CREATIVE ARTS
Art, drama and music play an important role at the school. The creative arts provide our pupils with the opportunity for self-expression and to excel. Art is an area of strength at The Unicorn School. Our pupils’ artwork is regularly displayed in the annual. Young Art Oxford exhibition at the prestigious Ashmolean Museum. In 2016 we were extremely proud to have a Unicorn School pupil win the, YAO Ruskin School of Art Award.
